sk Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 My advice is to have fun your way buddy, and let the chips fall where they may. Be yourself, if that is a beach lover then be on the beach. You are not asking them to do it your way, they should not ask you to do it their way. You are paying the airfare, spend the extra couple bucks for food on the beach and you owe them nothing. If they don't like you being you, then it is probably good to figure that out now. if the parents are footing th bill for lodging he is participating in their vacation. if he doesn't want to be an active participant than he should say "no thank you" and go with his buddies some other time. sk Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 So, I just got an invite to go to Hawaii in September for only $345.00! You see, my gf's family is completely LOADED, and they want me to come with them to "a cabin out in the sticks" for two and a half weeks. All I need to pay for is a plane ticket. My plan right now is simply this: buy a surf board and some beer, then build a camp fire on the beach. Then proceed to surf all day, chill by the fire, and get tan as shit! Anyone feeling my pain??? Its such a bummer......... if i paid for you to stay with with me and my family i would be utterly pissed off and disappointed at your lack of class and your utter disregard for the family. You need to rethink your little plan here and make sure you are participating in their family events and spending time helping out with chores around the cabin. keep in mind if this ends up being the girl you marry, the things you do and do not do now impact how said family views you for the rest of your life. DON'T BE A DICK He won't marry her. She might get pregnant, then she'll get strech marks and he won't think she's hot enough for him anymore. (of course, any girl who'll date a guy with only 4% body fat (all of it obviously in his head) can't be quite right) I can't believe you ladies! I am seriously not shallow like you jerks are implying! And Muffs: what I posted was just an instant moment of joy and fantasy I had this morning - of course my sweety was in that fantasy! Jesus........there is no way I'd be a dick. They are way too cool, and, being a dick is not easy for me. Oh yes, Archy: Now I'm being a dick. when you go on your own dime have the vacation of your dreams. i am glad that it is not your true intention to be so disrespectful Quote
Couloir Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 P.S. Never heard of "janking up" your "style" (is that some of that latest "gangsta" lingo?) Try some of that jive on your girlfriend's parents! I think that's wigger-speak. Quote

high_on_rock Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Muff, I respectfully disagree. Expecting one to either join at the hip or stay away should not be a valid expectation. Seems he could reasonably make a joint vacation and enjoy his own stuff too. Not ignore the inlaws and her family, but also not be expected to sit and watch then knit all day either. Be yourself, go have fun. Quote
G-spotter Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 lets go to fuckin hawaii get drunk in the sun lay on the beach in waikiki getta tan on my bum running from the rain thousands on the run makin like the rich heading for the sun art bergmann Quote

Fairweather Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I've wanted to do that hike along the Napali Coast of Kauai. When we sailed along it a few years back there were naked women hikers sunbathing on the more secluded beaches. Quote

Put your trust in knowing you have put forth on this board almost 1,000 examples of your shallowness. Which means you don't possess the depth to plumb the question of if and when you're being a dick. Greta Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Another haole gonna get spanked. This will likely prove to be the sum total of this trip if you choose to try to surf and stay on the beach. If you dont know anyone local who can take you to the breaks where you specifically wont get your ass kicked, I would recommend not taking a board to the beach. I certainly wouldnt sleep there, and most definitly wouldnt try to enjoy a nice campfire, announcing my presence. Just some free advice from someone who knows better. But hey, have fun Quote
EWolfe Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Be sure and wander around in the backcountry a bit too. The locals love that. Quote

OH yeah, anyone know of climbing possibilities? I know the rock is all volcanic and probably a death trap for human hand flesh.... Our plan is to do a lot of hiking and cliff jumping, but some climbing would be even cooler! Quote
spicoli11 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Greta is right.....watch your back when your sleeping on the beach. Its easy to take advantage of sun-stoked, hungover party animals from the mainland who pass out with there wallet in there tent. Rent a boogieboard and do some "dick-dragging" and you'll really get your ass kicked. Quote

Our plan is to do a lot of hiking and cliff jumping, but some climbing would be even cooler! Climbing in Hawaii? Fuggetaboutit! Me and another guy went to the islands several years ago with a rope and gear with some big climbing objectives involved. First and foremost, we went to Maui to climb the famous Iao Needle. We learned quickly what the scene is: crumbly choss. And the stuff that isn't old and crumbling will cut chu up! Here's a picture of "Dwayner" rappeling off the Needle and back into the jungle, lucky to be alive. We much more enjoyed the 40 mile round-trip trek to the summit of the 13,000+ summit of Mauna Loa...spectacular hiking in amazing volcanic terrain. There's some world-class hiking to be had on most of the islands (you never mentioned which one you were going to.) And there are some great guidebooks to the trails. You don't need a dang surfboard (especially if you don't know how to surf)....there's enough hiking and such to keep you occupied for years. I've been going there repeatedly since I was a small child and have found no end to the possible adventures to have there on land. Cliff jumping? You better know what you're doing. There's a few places here and there but you got to ask around. Quote
