blue Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I am looking for the best mechanic around Seattle for my old Toyota landcruiser, pref. North Seattle (Ballard). Any suggestions? A lot of us have old crusty trucks that need lots of attention, so anyone have a really good mechanic they want to share? -Cheers Quote
Mr_Phil Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Unfortunately, I only know the 2nd and 8th best mechanics for climber's trucks around Seattle. Good luck. Quote
shapp Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Jim Startup's in Everett is by far the best mechanic for foreign autos around, unfortunately it is about 23 miles north of you. Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 You could take your truck to Lee Wilcox at Lynnwood Auto and Truck. Good service and a fair price and he's a skier and climber. archenemy Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Gilmore's in Ballard is the bomb. I bring my classic show truck there and trust them with it. I also have a Toyota that I trust my life with and drive the hell out of that I bring there for all my overhaul type work. Quote
artschool Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I 2nd Gilmore's. They keep my '67 E-100 Falcon running great. Quote
genepires Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The best mechanic is the one having the most fun. Sorry, but needed to be said sooner or later. Quote
fenderfour Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 my classic show truck... please marry me Quote
AlpineK Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 For years I've taken all my large work trucks to Fleury's Tire 5244 Leary Way NW 782-5141 Trust me they do way more than just tires. I've taken a number of big work trucks there, and the company I used to work for used to take trucks that were even bigger there. Not that you need a CDL to drive a landcruiser. Quote
blue Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Thanks! Are you all talking about Gilmour Automotive at 75th and 15th? Quote
AlpineK Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 No it's Fleurys. It's just south of Market on Leary. Corner of Leary and 20th. Quote
blue Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 While we are at it does anyone have good experiences with an auto body shop in the same area as well..? Quote
goatboy Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Thread resurrection with a new twist -- vw van instead of truck. I have a VW Van that needs some love. These things are notorious for being difficult to diagnose, and expensive to fix. Has anyone had any good experiences with VW mechanics in the area, or are they all equally disheartening? Thanks very much for any help with this. BTW, I know that the best mechanic is the one having the most fun... Quote

Spencer Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Sorry no such thing as a "honest mechanic" it's like honest politician or honest Chiropractor, it would be just as productive to hire a priest to perform a Exorcism on it. Quote
nova Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Matt's Greenwood Auto Care is great. They specialize in foreign cars and just did some great work on my old Toyota pickup. Sadly, they are not cheap, but no good mechanic is. Very informative and willing to break down costs, send out parts to be rebuilt (quickly!) if it is the cheapest option, and best of all, they will give you a free loaner car while your truck is in the shop.
