You're more than a good egg, Carolyn. You are a REALLY GOOD egg. Latte is a very lucky beast and, I think, you are pretty lucky too. After all, you've had the privilege of spending time with Latte.

Update pleez, carolyn. OKTHNXBAI!

Oh geeeeeeeeez has a month already passed?!?!?! I cant believe how long this has gone on!!!

Latte and I won a settlement with the drug company (through my Attorney General) for $1,000. I am definately grateful for this. Though part of me feels like it is a spit in the face considering how much I have and will continue to spend on her...AND considering the billions of dollars of profits they made last year.

Anyway, Latte now has her own bank account/cash card. :D

She is the cat that keeps on ticking. :moondance:

I took her in last month to the University where two of the countries top renal specialists reside. Unfortunately she couldnt see either of them as they are in the midst of research. She did however see one of the residents who is supervised by them.

They believed she may have an ulcer, though it cant be confirmed w/o an ultrasound, which I have chosen not to subject her to. Anything revealed in an ultrasound would either be something we treat symptomatically (which we are already doing) OR would determine something more serious that I would never be able to do anything about.

She vomited the first dose of ulcer medication. The next day she started eating like a crazy girl. I also did another med switch for her tummy and put her on sub-q fluids 2x/day because she keeps getting very dehydrated. She has been eating like a crazy girl other than this last week because of an infection (which can be solved easily).

She is playing, purring, talking non-stop. She seems very happy. I recently made a large 'flower' box on my back porch and planted cat grass in it. She likes to lay in it (as well as eat it) while pretending to stalk something - I think the ants?!?!?!

Her medication schedule is a little taxing, but otherwise things are going well. As much as I am dreading her death, as devastated as I will be to lose my best buddy, I am ready as I can be. I have put limits on the type of treatments I will offer her and stuck with it for the most part. Yet here she is, refusing to move along and demanding every last bit I can offer.

Is it worth it? Heck ya!

Guess Thailand will be saved for another winter. Boy am I getting antsy!!!!

Carolyn

Holy moly, 2x/day! I had my last guy on fluids 2x/WEEK plus meds every A.M. and P.M. It wore me to a nub. You are a hell of a trooper.

But, we owe it to our pals.

Before my buddy Trango cashed in his chips, I had him on sub-q ringers 3X/day and meds 3X/day. I went home for lunch every day so I could give him his Rx. He was a real trooper, and the best cat I ever had. Well, Phydeaux's giving Trango a run for his money, anyway...

Awwwwwww! Thanks for posting Sobo!

It sure is amazing what these creatures put up with and how well they adapt.

Latte gets the fluids 2x/day, right now 2 meds in the a.m. and 3 in the p.m. (via syringe). Some of them have to be timed appropriately and spaced apart from the others. Too bad ya cant just turn it into a cocktail, eh? When I have to syringe feed....I have NOOOOO life!

Oh does she protest, but she forgives so easily. :) (never forgets however)

bless their hearts.

PS- for those of you who think this sounds like torture (which sometimes I think), the benefits and quality of life seem to outweigh it quite a bit. At least for me and kitty, for now.

LOL, no shit off white!

I dunno, she is probably doing better than me at this point. Im pretty exhausted, lucky to get 5hrs of sleep each night.

She had a few awesome months. She has not been eating again since mid october though. So Im doing a lot of syringe feeding. Somehow she is happy as can be...mousing, playing with her strings, eating grass, gettin' stoned, and so on. She seems to still enjoy being a cat despite the constant poking and prodding on my part to get food and medicine in her.

We saw one of the top renal specialists in the country last week. Her kidney failure (now disease) is 'stable', despite going off of only one kidney. Something else is going on contributing to her tummy not feeling well. Unfortunately I cannot afford extensive testing to find out. I am doing the best I can to treat her symptoms. Not sure how successful at this point.

I did get the report back from the FDA deciding if the drug she took caused her kidney failure. It stated, 'not likely'. They only information they used to come to that conclusion was the drug companies report, which was included in my letter. Keep in mind both myself and vet filed a report with the FDA as well. Their report was grossly inaccurate. The drug company said she did not have lab work done prior to administration of the med, so it was probably a pre existing condition. Strange how I actually have a receipt from the drug company paying for the lab work they claim does not exist?!?!?! It also says that Latte died in July (a tad disturbing to read as I watch her sleeping on her throne). When I contacted the FDA to find out how to change this conclusion they came to and told them the drug company lied, I was told I was treading on legal territory and they could not advise me. WTF?!?!! :stick up the middle finger:

Work is starting to slow down so I hope to deal with some of it soon. A big part will be getting in touch with my senator - something I do not have here in MN right now since it is still in a recount. *sigh*

I sure do hope to climb someday again. My body and mind are feeling more than a tad blah. Yet, if you ask me if I would rather spend my day frustrated and tired because of my cat, or not have her with me, I would pick the first. And when she IS gone, I will be devastated, yet relieved and feel free again.

Here are a few photos of her from early fall (she looks the same now). I built a small grass platform on my back patio, since she has never really been able to roll or walk in the grass. Even when its 20 degrees outside she is sitting at the back door begging to go out. :)

Hi carolyn,

Glad to hear from you again, both here and in my email. Latte looks like a queen in that photo, indeed quite regal.

She's quite the little tiger, no? And Mom is quite the fighter, too.

I wish you well in your fight with whomever you end up with, be it Franken or Coleman.

PS: Instead of just plain ol' grass, plant of bed of 'nip for her, too, eh? :toad:

Aw, thanks for the pic and the update. You're amazing, Carolyn. No wonder Latte looks so happy and wants to stick around!

Take of yourself, too! It sounds as if you've got your lovely kitty covered.
