G-spotter
i think it's better not to fall. i did self-arrest with a quark once on solid water ice just by taking a big fucking swing overhand at a passing bush as i slid by. it worked. catbirdseat
I'll bet it just about pulled your arm out of its socket. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
slothrop
Yikes, glad you're on the way to recovery. That slope is steep for a pretty long way and it's easy to let your guard down when the "real climbing" starts 300 feet up.

Bug
Scary. I had my tool yanked off my wrist once. Now I tie it to a waist belt or to my harness if I am wearing one.
Gary_Yngve
Glad to hear that you are recovering well. Â I'm not the Gary you met there. Â I kept thinking, "A car, a car, my kingdom for a car!" when the page went off, as I've done the approach to NF Kent before, but I couldn't set up a carpool with a fellow rescuer fast enough. I took the role of in-town OL and called base to give beta for accessing Mt. Kent -- not sure how much of my info was useful or made it into the field. Â I heard some Tacoma folks also responded, and there was a SnoCat involved too? Also many thanks go to the physician you or your partner spoke with over the phone. MtnHigh
T, good to hear that J is going to be OK. I was tempted to join you guys, but I was already into my third beer and a last minute solo drive up at night didn't inspire me. Â tell me it wasn't pete Somehow I managed to stay on my feet over weekend. Â
Jamin
Hey, you learned your lesson. I sure most of us here have had a minor or major accident at least once. Thankfully, most of the time they aren't as bad as yours. Eventually your ice axe will become a part of you. Good luck with your battle scars, and get well soon. Jamin
I think most of you know what I mean by an ice axe becoming a part of you. By the way, I guarantee that I am not a noob when it comes to 45 degree snow slopes. http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13209&highlight=Duke+of+Kent

Jamin
Hey, I am a really nice guy too. I sort of scare my partners half to death unintentionally sometimes, but in the end I am still a nice guy.
