G-spotter Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 A climber friend of mine from the PNW has been living in California for the past 4 years, now it looks like he's moving to Bainbridge Island. Is there any climbing on the island? If not it's only half an hour to Seattle right? Quote
kevbone Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Oh sorry, I thought you were pink. Hard to tell you too apart these days. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 No, and No. I haven't done the ferry, but I think it's a 45 minute ferry and who knows how long of a wait. Usually better going to Seattle, than to the Island. Probably 2 hours to Index, maybe 1:15 to North Bend. Close to the Olympics obviously though, so there's a lot of good alpine. Quote
poorclimber Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 35 minute ferry. Really only backed up during rush hour boats when commuters flood the system, holidays, and the summer when tourists come over. Definitely no real rock on the island, at least none that I have found yet. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 No climbing on that island! Shows what you know. There's a crag on Bainbridge that's nearly as good as the one near Renton. It just needs some development and more traffic and it'll be sick! Quote
olyclimber Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Dirty Harry, who is my friend, is right. There is some moss, but that stuff is tight, yo. My friend Dirty Harry said so. Quote
wayne Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I lived there for 2 years. I saw some small boulders in the forest, but nothing like the Renton massif Quote
Rexroth Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 (edited) Been on the Island for ten years and can't count the number of times I've been speeding back from forays in the Cascades only to miss the last boat thereby having the good pleasure of a 3 hour nap until the next morning. IMO whatever charm the island had is rapidly, err, transforming in a Lexus/lawyery sort of way and the ferry situ is completely anathema to easy climbing. Best crag is probably in my garage.
