drater Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 swear to god, this is that crack I was telling you about. no, not the stuff we hooked up down on the 9000 block of sprague, this crack... Quote
kurthicks Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 nice splitter in Omak! what's it go at? Quote
drater Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 I don't know. It's graded 12a but that's flood control for sure, it's bouted some strong climbers for a lot of attempts. And it really kicked MY ass. I tried to get Snickers on it for a true hardpersons onsite attempt but he was too busy doing FA solo's up north. Or something. Dave Jones FA, circa mid to late 80's I think. Quote
drater Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 C1 at least. Ropes are aid too. Don't confuse the situation. Quote
kevbone Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Looks like A1 cause Tape is Aid. Is aid bad? Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 so is this location being kept secret by mr. blowboarder? shore looks like a purty crack; mebbe you didn't show chris any photos.... Quote
drater Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 so is this location being kept secret by mr. blowboarder nope. follow the img properties to the url and a fascinating history behind OC and surrounding crags...also speaks volumes about the abundant access issues around this area... shore looks like a purty crack; mebbe you didn't show chris any photos.... mebbe the whole crew was speaking in tongues and suffering from auditory hallucinations and driving 20 miles to try and onsite hard trad had little to no appeal at the time.....mebbe not..the details get sketchy somewhere about there....what was supposed to be a scenic cruise up some 5.7 chimneys turned into a full on first ascent free solo of overhanging corners to avoid "that mountain of bat shit in that crack"...or perhaps I dreamed the whole engagement.... I'm sure he would have hiked it no matter what condition his condtion was in. Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 feh. url no good, and trying to navigate mountaineers required a helmet. any more info? Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Nice new avatar SC. thanks. you miss my old one? Quote
drater Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 feh. url no good, and trying to navigate mountaineers required a helmet. any more info? good god, that site does suck for navigation. google pwned it however and produced this scintillating tale by cc.com's own Sargent Rock http://www.mountaineers.org/nwmj/04/041_Omak.html Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 cool info. so is omak crack still accessible, and where is it? Quote
DirtyHarry Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 When I lived in the Methow and worked in Okanogan I'd drive around and look for good crags but the ones I found were always on private land. Sucked. Nice lookin granite though. Quote
drater Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 gneiss looking gneiss you mean. SC, to be honest, I don't know the current access status of OC. It's on the White Block, which is the highest developed cliff on that particular massif, and if you look at the Omak cliffs from the town of Omak it will appear as a bright shining face, almost mirror like in it's reflectivity (yes, it's a kick ass winter locale). You should PM Sargent Rock for details, he'll know the story or can get it from Sean if he's not up to date. Amazing how bolts fuck up a place, there's an area within 30 miles of there that has a longstanding no fixed pro ethic and suprisingly enough, no access issues. Ala Forest Gump, that's all I got to say about that place... Quote
bwrts Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 " It's on the White Block, which is the highest developed cliff on that particular massif" The highest rock on the hill? I climbed some rad lines with Mitch in the area about 10years ago. One crack on the hill top was called omak crack I thought, but it was rated 11+ (maybe 11)... awesome line, none-the-less. Quote
drater Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 That's it...11+ it is. "Hey buddy, grab a shovel and lets stop this flood." Quote
Marty Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I heard, but it is a rumor, that Donny signed up in the military and got shipped off to Bagdad. No wonder the rest of the world hates Americans. I mean, all we can send em' are Spokanites and the like. Sheeeesh!!! Quote
Josh_HC Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I saw Donny ( or as i like to call him "Donkey Punch" up at Little Si last weekend, climbing in the rain. Quote
