unethicalhiker Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 (edited) A hiker on Mt Seymour slipped and fell 200 meters down an icy chute on Mt Seymour. He was very lucky to escape with his life. He slipped once and recovered with help of ice axe and then a few meters on he slipped again but did not catch himself. The accident occurred near the end of the hike. They only had snowshoes. No crampons. The intial slip must have alerted him to the danger so this likely was not a fall due to carelessnes or inattention. Is it appropriate to try to traverse a steep icy slope in showshoes. Don't you take your snowshoes off and cut a path with your ice axe? These guys faced steep icy slopes all day. One of the hikers was a speedster so this may have contributed. rob Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 WTF, you create an account today, so you can anonymously sling shit at someone? You sound like a dipshit, I hope I don't have any friends like you. Is that too harsh? Quote
G-spotter Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 that's not too harsh at all. eat a bag of dicks, fuckwad. get the real story here: http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=20146 Quote
Mr_Phil Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 These folks should be charged for their rescue because they were not carrying MLUs. Taxpayers should not have to pay for their obviously dangerous actions! Oh, wait. That was in Canada. Nevermind! Quote

Bigtree Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 An army of rescuers spend a night or two with the fellow but could extract him due to poor weather; helicopter swooped in when the weather broke and flew him to safety; broken leg, maybe internal injuries, whacked his head too as I recall; the fellow's immensely grateful for all the help, yada, yada, yada... catbirdseat Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Whoa, nine pages! Didn't notice they put the page selector on the left side. Quote
unethicalhiker Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 He's being released from the hospital today with minor injuries. He won't be paying the $50,000 it cost to rescue him. He's been made into a hero for falling off a mountain. Quote
rob Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 You sound like a fucking snake, you suck. You don't belong here. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 unethicalwanker, if I ever meet you in person, you will receive more than minor injuries, and SAR won't be helping you out. Quote
unethicalhiker Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Im not a girl and Im not going to get sentimental about some random stranger in a foreign country. I found another picture which shows that there was at least 6 inches of snow on top of the icy surface. I couldnt really understand how they could have got even 10 ft with snowshoes on that ice. I have fallen on black ice so I know how fast things can happen. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 You are lower than snake shit in a tire rut Quote
crazy_t Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 He's maybe a lawyer, or a journalist? Something is funky. Trolling for someone to say something to back his statements. Quote

Off_White Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I saw this thread this morning and thought Rob & Dru's response was right on, a fair example of an occasion when a harsh response is appropriate, even on the Climbers Board. Quote
