johndeere Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Hello to the Climbing Community: I'm an avid Mt Hood snowboarder but not much of a climber, at least not to the extent of most on here! But in leiu(sp?) of the 3 climbers currently stranded near the summit, I thought I would pass this on. The locals will already know this but for out-of-towners etc. you never know when it might come in useful! There is a Lift House on the SF (Palmer Snowfield) at aprox. 9000' invisible to most during the winter as it's primarily used in the summer. Not sure how accessible it is from the NF, ZZCanyon etc. but it's there should you ever need it. Once the weather clears enough to get back up there, I'll pass along a GPS fix on the locale. Quote
rbw1966 Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 It gets buried by snow. I wouldn't count on it being accessible in winter. Quote
EWolfe Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Just don't smoke in there or folks get a wee bit upset, if history is any reflection. Quote

k44 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 there was a nice snow cave built next to the locked door a couple of years ago. room for 4 or 5, shelves and flat floor. i took a nap in there on the way up. Quote
iain Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Not sure if this is a troll but the upper palmer terminal is padlocked and they def don't want you in there. This didn't stop one guy who literally chopped down the door with an axe. Quote
