Gary_Yngve
Why does everyone get so defensive when someone says they pack a weapon? Because there are many more people who carry guns, get lost in the woods, and need to be rescued, than there are people who don't carry guns and get attacked by man or beast. Superman
I could never understand why people lock their doors at night. I mean, maybe if you have a restraining order out on someone but sheesh. What a fearful society we live in.

Jim
Last I checked, accidental killings from over-zealous door locking or password protection were low on the list.
Superman
It's weird ... the last time I got a speeding ticket my car wasn't fined. It didn't even have to appear in front of the Judge! Crazy.

Gary_Yngve
Whoops, I need to clarify: Because there are many more people who carry guns, get lost in the backcountry, and need to be rescued, than there are people who don't carry guns and get attacked by man or beast in the backcountry. Superman
So your argument is that since it's not likely to happen, then you're wrong to carry a gun in order to prevent it? If so, I gotta admit, that's a stupid argument. If that's not your argument, then what exactly is your point?

They should only carry a gun if they are first carrying navigational tools, firstaid kit, headlamp, and other ten essentials.
Superman
Let's not confuse the issues, Gary. Although I agree with your statement that you should only carry a gun in the woods if you are carrying the ten essentials as well. I'd take it a step further and say that you shouldn't be going in the woods without the ten essentials, regardless of whether or not you're carrying a gun. I feel safer with a gun. It's great to be American.
olyclimber
perhaps we could move the arguement onto what exactly the ten essentials are.
