They should only carry a gun if they are first carrying navigational tools, firstaid kit, headlamp, and other ten essentials. Quote

Although I agree with your statement that you should only carry a gun in the woods if you are carrying the ten essentials as well. I'd take it a step further and say that you shouldn't be going in the woods without the ten essentials, regardless of whether or not you're carrying a gun. I feel safer with a gun.
