G-spotter Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 What is the relationship between the Higgs boson(s) and the graviton? Quote
DirtyHarry Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 The gravitron is a ride at the state fair. Duh. Quote
G-spotter Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 A Grade II ride Now answer my question, bitch! Quote
DirtyHarry Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Dammit Jim, I'm a lawyer not a physicist! Ask Sky. Quote
Dechristo Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 gravitons cause bosons to sag eventually Quote
G-spotter Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 Fuckit I just Googled it. You guys are no help at all. This answer kind of sucks though: http://www.physicsforums.com/archive/index.php/t-78993.html Quote
RogerJ Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 gravitons cause bosons to sag eventually   Phew... for a moment I feared this thread might take a detour off the normal spray path.  -r Quote
skykilo Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 The Higgs boson is part of the Standard Model^{TM} and we hope to observe it soon. Â The Higgs gives paricles their masses. Â The graviton interacts with massive particles. It's gravity's equivalent to the photon in electrodynamics. But the photon is part of the Standard Model^{TM} Lagrangian, whereas there is no simple Lagrangian that includes the graviton. Â There is no quantum theory of gravity, yet. String theory might provide a quantum theory of gravity some day. Â In short, the Higgs generates masses (causes things to have mass), whereas the graviton mediates interactions between massive objects. Quote
G-spotter Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 So I have mass because I interact with Higgs bosons, and therefore I emit gravitons. I can dig it. Â And in loop quantum gravity there are neither Higgses nor gravitons? Quote
skykilo Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Not sure what you mean by loop quantum gravity, so, er, umm... YES. Quote
Mr_Phil Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Dammit Jim, I'm a lawyer ... Â Explains why you're such an asshole. Quote

archenemy Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Â There is no quantum theory of gravity, yet. String theory might provide a quantum theory of gravity some day. Bullshit. Â Â My only question for a physicist is "Are you free for lunch?". But String Theory and M Theory are off limits because they are unprovable and just plain lame. Hey, that rhymes! Maybe I can publish it. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 physics is very valuable. for instance did you know you could get a hot shower using the cold water tap, as long as your shower head was several miles up in the sky? there's a little money saving tip for you. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 i would move Mt Fuji using molecular biology. Quote
Dechristo Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 i would move Mt Fuji using molecular biology. Â you're gonna need to supply affidavits from boudoir partners to substantiate this Quote
