Gary_Yngve Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 just a friendly warning if you don't want yourself covered with bites Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Also a warning, if you are pretty much anywhere in the North Cascades, Central Cascades, around Mt. Rainier, Goat Rocks, Mt. Adams, near Hood or a freaking lake for that matter anywhere between Northern California and Southern Alaska on the east or westside of a mountain range, you'll probably have to deal with bugs. Quote
roboboy Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I would suggest vertical world June thru October Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted June 13, 2006 Author Posted June 13, 2006 Thanks, Captain Obvious. I don't remember any other mosquito encounters in the past few years I've been to Index in May/June. The mosquitos at Vantage really surprised me. It's been really wet lately. Quote
mattp Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 It has been wet lately, but I don't think mosquito's at Index are an extraordinary occurence, May or June included. I don't remember ever encountering them in Vantage, though. Quote
roboboy Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 maybe something to do with this One of the most effective ways to control mosquito populations that transmit disease is to reduce the number and types of mosquito breeding habitats in your community. All mosquitos require a water source to lay their eggs, which can hatch into larvae within a week. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Thanks, Captain Obvious. So, are you the pot or the kettle? Quote
ALLCAPS Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 ANOTHER FRIENDLY REMINDER: DON'T WEAR SHORT SKIRTS IN ITALY. WHILE YOU MIGHT SEE ITALIAN MODELS WEARING THEM, IT IS CERTAINLY NOT THE NORM. MEN WILL SEE IT AS AN INVITATION TO GRAB YOUR BOTTOM AND PINCH YOU. Quote
roboboy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 YOU MIGHT FARE WORSE THAN EITHER A MOSQUITO BITE OR A PINCH BY WEARING A SHORT SKIRT AT INDEX, THOUGH. Quote
chris Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 The mosquitos probably have something to do with the "Feathers Lake" that has formed in the middle of the camping area at Vantage (due to some genius' idea of how water should drain from a depression when blocked by a road). I think the water and mosquitos may somehow be related. Just a hunch. Quote
olyclimber Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Where I come from, mosquitos prefer water. Quote
ken4ord Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Don't come here, there is mosquito here too! These ones will kill ya, though. I am surprised I am not dead yet, holy shite I have just remembered I have forgotten to take my medication since I have been here, ah the sky is falling, the sky is falling! Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Ken, what are you taking? Artemisin or one of the Chloroquine type drugs? Quote
G-spotter Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 He's taking a medication to raise his blood pressure. Then when the skeeters bite you the pressure blows their heads off. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 If that were true, in my case, the skeeters would just get really drunk. Quote
ken4ord Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Ken, what are you taking? Artemisin or one of the Chloroquine type drugs? I am not taking anything. I figure if I need to I have a laboratory at my disposal to see if I have malaria. Also there is a ton of clinics that can diagnose malaria, some of them it might be the only thing they can do halfway decently. Quote
G-spotter Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 YOU MIGHT FARE WORSE THAN EITHER A MOSQUITO BITE OR A PINCH BY WEARING A SHORT SKIRT AT INDEX, THOUGH. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PIG HEAD! Quote
