if you could get a job in canada that paid you 20 times as much to do less work than your current job, would you stay in the US and vote out bush and vote in a canadian-american (like neil young or william shatner) to improve things, or would you just move to canada?

How the fuck do you know that they're illegal??!! Because their skin is brown??!! If that's your logic, you're a fucking racist, and you should make sure not to introduce yourself to me if we ever meet in the world.

He claimed that the protesters are illegal aliens. And how do you know that my skin isn't brown too? Have we met before?

If you assume that someone is illegal based on their skin color, that's a racist stereotype. If underworld is brown skinned and is assuming that the protester's are illegal because of their skin color - that's still racism.

I really wonder if these anti-immigration people realize that if all of a sudden all illegal immigrants were booted out of the country our economy would literally collapse. Think about that one for a minute and balance it against your racist views.

BTW, you may want to get a hold of PeterPuget and KazakWhatever. You guys would have a lot of fun discussing who to nuke next and what racial group to target.

G-spot's right. And DC, racism is based on physical characteristics, most often the color of skin. The protests to date have been primarily Latino, though I heard that the LA protests had a significant number of Philipino as well (they are the second largest immigrant group in California).

So are all the protesters illegal immigrants? Am I? Of course not - but Underworld didn't make that distinction in his post. Its completely jack-assed. And if underworld didn't mean for his frustration or confusion to appear racist, I'd like him to say so.

'racist' is a buzzword.

i'm second generation here in the states... grandpa came straight from mexico. did it all legally.

my point was to point out the screwed up logic here. that the police are supposed to enforce the law - are protecting those breaking the law. same with all these other back asswards fest and get-togethers.

play the race card if you will, but i'm just pointing out the stupid logic.

also, with all the hate america...america is mean...america is not charitable BS that goes around - it is the place where this sort of bullshit is allowed. they aren't protesting in mexico cuz they'd probably be put in a prison and never seen again.

ok...so i should've been more pc. they aren't illegal, they prefer 'undocumented'.

if i get pulled over drunk driving, i'll say i'm un-sober. or if i'm driving a stolen car, it's just un-payed for. then it will all be fine.

Racism is not a buzzword. It is very real, and it exists, and to ignore it means to allow it to grow. I listened to the stories my grandparents and parents told me. And I witnessed it in the South growing up.

Fair enough. But what are the police supposed to do - pull aside every protester who appears illegal and check ID's? On what criteria? Their color of skin?

The Consititution does not say these rights are only for citizens - does it? So the right to assemble and protest belongs to everyone in this country, regardless of their status of citizenship.

And there are protests in Mexico - and in el D.F., all the time. Visit Chiapas, or read up on the Zapatistas, who are still active in the country. Hell, read Reforma or El Universal to see it for yourself.

One of the proposals right now includes making illegal alien status a felony crime. This means they could be imprisoned instead of deported, and they could be refused legal immigration status in the future because of the felony conviction.

OK, I've got to go to class. Catch ya'll later.

underworld: the police were there to keep the peace, not arrest people or search people's papers to see if they have a right to be in this country. Not all police activities are done to catch perpetrators. Expand your perspective.

but i think that prison stuff would only happen after given a bunch of chances to fix it. of course. the aclu would never let that go down.

ya, i've gotta get back to work too - remember, i'm mexican, so i keep this country running wazzup.gif
