needtoclimb Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I have Tuesday and Wednesday off. Anyone want to get out of this rain and go climb under some desert sun? Quote
Blake Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I'm gonna be out there on Friday with a friend, anyone else gonna be there? Quote
needtoclimb Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 After looking at the DOT cams and seeing snow on the ground, I'm not much up for climbing wet rock out there. I'll wait a couple of weeks until at least the snow melts. Jeesh, what a winter. Quote
MCash Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 There is no snow at Vantage right now. Dry rock and sunshine is in the forecast. Quote
Blake Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Never been there before, and i'll be taking a friend who probably climbs up to about 5.7/8. Can anyone recomend some directions to an area with a few routes in this range? Trad or sport, TR or lead, doesn't matter cause she'll be following and know how to clean. William Robins webpage doesn't list any info on the Feathers, which seems like THE spot for a newbie. Thanks guys. P.s. if anyone else wants to go, that'd be great too. -Blake Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Do Seven Virgins and a Mule, Crossing the Threshold, and Party in Your Pants at Sunshine Wall. Do you have Climbing Washington, by Smoot? That'll get you there. Quote
Blake Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Do you have Climbing Washington, by Smoot? That'll get you there. no, don't have the smoot book, i prefer to get lost on my own. CBS, will i need some kind of special parking pass to be at the feathers parking lot for a day? Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Yes, you need to get the State Wildlife Access permit that costs $12. It expires in March. Quote
whirlwind Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 yeah dude, the feathers 4 sport or sunshine wall if you want trad, lota easy cracks on sunshine Quote
Blake Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 yep, looks like a couple clip-ups at the feathers and then some trad at the sunshine. Hope I can eyeball some good lines! Sounds like helmets are a must eh? Quote
mattp Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Yes, helmets are a good idea. Holds blow off with no warning even on popular routes out there and your belayer is probably standing at the base of the dihedral directly below where you are going to send your misplaced hold. Quote
cappellini Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 why buy a parking sticker when you can buy a 2006 fishing license for not much more $, you'll get a parking sticker good through march 2007 with your 2006 fishing license Quote
DirtyHarry Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I'll wait a couple of weeks until at least the snow melts. Jeesh, what a winter. Not any different than most winters here. Where the fuck did you crawl out of? Quote
needtoclimb Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Not any different than most winters here. Where the fuck did you crawl out of? You having a bad day and feel like taking it out through a computer. Relax man. When was the last time we had eight feet of snow at Snoqualmie? When was the last time it rained 27 days straight? A couple years ago I cilmbed every other weekend in Vantage during the winter, and only saw snow on the ground once. This year, looking at the DOT cams (and they might be wrong) there has been snow on the ground over there for a week. If I am wrong about the current conditions, please correct me with facts and data, not epithets and curses. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 When was the last time we had eight feet of snow at Snoqualmie? Probably March of 2004. In February 2004 Snocrummie snowpack measured 80", current Snocrummie depth is 83" - Not quite seven feet, genius. Quote

Could you please tell us all if this kind of thing is rampant once you check through the rest of the posts on this website? I shudder at the thought of it NTC – hope your trip works out Quote
needtoclimb Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 Okay, after seeing Blake's pictures and report that there is no snow on the rocks, I'm ready to get out and do some climbing. Anyone care to join me on Monday and Tuesday (Jan 23rd and 24th)? Quote
