catbirdseat Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Missed our flight after standing in line for three hours, then we were told to stand in another long line to rebook! We bailed and went back to my sister's place for the night. What a fiasco! Finally caught a flight out the next day. We were waiting at the gate to board when along came an arrival. They let the passengers into the exit ramp, but forgot to open the door. The passengers were banging on the window. I went to opened the emergency exit. What a way to run an airline! Quote
cj001f Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 American air carriers suck Repeal the ownership restrictions and bring credible carriers to America Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 What carrier should I use the next time I fly to Southern California? Quote
cj001f Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 What carrier should I use the next time I fly to Southern California? WTF wants to go to SoCal? I live here - I try to go away everychance I get! Your answer: repeal foreign ownership restrictions on airlines and bring consolidation and quality services to the US Aviation industry. Quote

Camilo Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 What carrier should I use the next time I fly to Southern California? Your automobile. Actually, I've flown between PDX and SoCal about 40 times with Alaska without even so much as a delay. Quote
Squid Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 What carrier should I use the next time I fly to Southern California? Send yourself via USPS- I hear they're awesome. Quote
AlpineK Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Tell me about it. I grew up there. Ya know, if you lived where you grew up you wouldn't have to travel long distances over the holidays. Quote

mtn_mouse Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Our airlines industry is 3rd world. Take the train instead... the Coast Starlight and travel in comfort. Quote
foraker Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 You're saying our national train system is any better? What a laugh. Quote
cj001f Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 You're saying our national train system is any better? What a laugh. You can stand up, walk, congregate in groups of more than 2 and get a decent drink. Yes. Quote

catbirdseat Posted January 6, 2006 Author Posted January 6, 2006 Our airlines industry is 3rd world. Take the train instead... the Coast Starlight and travel in comfort. I've done that. The train ran 10 hours late on the way down and 3 hours late on the way back. Quote

cj001f Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Fly in central asia if you want to know third-world Speaking from recent experience, many of their airlines are better or no worse than US carriers. American carriers are pretty fucking pathetic. Maybe if we paid Ryanair prices we'd have a rational excuse for the shitty service. Quote
cj001f Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 not by my experience. Are the only people left flying a 707 that's 3rd world. Quote

I always take Alaska Air to the Bay Area and the service has been fine. Flights are usually on time with glitches on occasion. The one time I took UAL to/from LAX (en route to Hawaii) it really sucked. I avoid United now. BTW, did they charge you for peanuts? Word is that's the new brainstorm of the airline exec's to save $$... Quote
counterfeitfake Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I've always liked Alaska Airlines. Taking the train from Seattle to LA is a good idea if you like being 8 hours late and having to travel about 1/3 of the distance on a bus. Well, that's what happened to me when I tried it, anyway. Amtrak is a joke. Quote
