jesselillis Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 i suppose i may get hammered for this one, but hopefully within the amusing comments, ill find a good answer. wire gates are stronger, lighter and not subject to gate flutter or freezing up, right? i guess lockers need them, but wheres the advantage to solid gate non-locking biners? and bent gate? easier to clip than straight gate maybe, but easier than wires? tomtom Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Why do they eat at McDonalds? The food sucks and is bad for you. Maybe the coffee is ok, but that's it. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Ever set up a carabiner rap system with wire gates? Quote
crazyjizzy Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 How many people today know what a biner rap system is, much less know how to set one up? Quote
fenderfour Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Ever set up a carabiner rap system with wire gates? Â Yes. OP Dovals and BD Ovalwires work fine. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Ever set up a carabiner rap system with wire gates? Â Yes. OP Dovals and BD Ovalwires work fine. Â All the biners used in the system were wire gate?? Quote
John Frieh Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Ever set up a carabiner rap system with wire gates? Â Yes. OP Dovals and BD Ovalwires work fine. Â I bent an OP Doval gate during a carabiner rap system such that the gate was/is now outside the nose and tweaked to one side. I can post a pic later but I would say stay away from wiregates on rap. whoohoonickieclimbs Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 @least I am learning something! Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 How many people today know what a biner rap system is, much less know how to set one up? Well, everyone in the Mountaineers does. Quote
dylan_taylor Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 why wouldn't wiregate ovals work for a carabiner break? shouldn't the rope be over the spines anyway? Quote
EWolfe Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 i suppose i may get hammered for this one, but hopefully within the amusing comments, ill find a good answer. wire gates are stronger, lighter and not subject to gate flutter or freezing up, right? i guess lockers need them, but wheres the advantage to solid gate non-locking biners? and bent gate? easier to clip than straight gate maybe, but easier than wires? Â Here's why: After donning your laderhosen and kletterboots, then draping your goldline properly over your shoulder you need an appropriate set of 'biners for racking you hexentrics and corded stoppers. Â Hope that helps explain it. Quote
Blake Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Ever set up a carabiner rap system with wire gates? Â I've done it with Neutrinos before. Quote
Dru Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 why do they make solid gate biners? Â because they can! Quote
iain Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 If you want keylock biners, there's only one wiregate that offers such a mechanism and at retail it is pretty expensive (last I checked). Just throwing that out there. Â Pretty sure your biners are not going to make or break your climbs. Unless they suck, of course. In which case you might die. Which is bad. Quote
Dru Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Since they make Porsches, and Porsches are pretty damn good cars in general, why do they make Fords? Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Do you see an f'ing american flag on a porsche? The porsche cayenne's windows do not accomodate multiple american flag + ala mater flag attachments during events such as the apple cup, or oregon/oregon state civil war. Typical that I have to spell it out for a canuck. Quote
