If it wasn't for the moniker (...??), this might have been one of my grandparents or my mother. They're always asking me how my "hike" went, even when I *tell* them I had gone rock climbing. Always, it's "hiking." rolleyes.gif

This (without the swearing) should go in an updated version of that Men's journal on climbing, the one with "Bouldering is hiking with some obstacles thrown in."

We were practicing some self/partner rescue one night at the gym and the owner asked "why do you need to know that stuff".

 

I said, "you don't if you never go higher than 30 meters"

Judging from his question, it sounds like its possible to cause oneself brain damage at under 30 meters.

Actually, good answer by selkirk. Oh, and in that spirit, the Alpental backcountry sucks: you guys should all go to Stevens.
