Yungaburra Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 Anyone have any winter experence on the Lib Bell? By either the Lib Crack or Thin Red Line? I have been talking to a friend about trying one of these two routes before I leave for California next month. Quote
genepires Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 Beta? Prepare to suffer. You probably got 3 hours of daylight. If you do it, you will be the MAN! Quote
Yungaburra Posted February 13, 2002 Author Posted February 13, 2002 I was hopeing to gain more than being the Man from doing it [ 02-12-2002: Message edited by: Yungaburra ] Quote
Dru Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 maybe you should ask a cacade legend like steve house, i hear he recommends a rack of 100 gu packets, 2 cam hooks and a shovel. Quote
AlpineK Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 Well for one thing I think the slopes leading up to the east face of Liberty Bell to be very dangerous unless the snow pack was very stable. you would have to take snow shoes on the route for the descent. Rock climbing in Cali sounds a lot more fun. Quote
erik Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 dont forget to metiont he 16 mile approach from mazama....that adds to the fun..... the liberty crack has been climbed in the winter, but as far as i know thin red line awaits doing the lib bell in winter i would think would get you into mode for something big and nasty not sunny cali granite....... specialed Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 It would be worth a try if you could find a sled to get in there with Quote
MATT_B Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 I thought about it once (for about 5 minutes). I remember finding something written about a winter assent of Liberty Crack. I could be wrong but try AAJ from around the late 70's. Quote
Yungaburra Posted February 14, 2002 Author Posted February 14, 2002 I think my friend may be getting too big for his britches! This all sounds like maby I should get a stick and slap him around a bit and then reconsider Quote
