Pantani to my knowledge never tested positive although he did die from a cocaine overdose wink.gif

Kicked out of the '99 Giro for failing a blood test.

It'd be wonderful if Lance didn't dope, I just don't find it probable.

Ok I remember that. It was a hematocrit test.

Well since you guys seem to know so much why don't you enlighten the rest of us on exactly what drugs these guys are taking!

if we knew what drugs they took we could test them for it.

I thought it was interesting that both Scientific American and tHe Economist, publications that do not usually share editorial positions, have come out in the last few years in favour of legalizing and legitimizing the use of performance enhancers in sport. Sci Am did it on the basis of health benefits for the athletes, while ThE Economist did it on the basis of turning the competitions into one of medical science, IE market based, rather than individual and surrogate national prowess

Geeze Dru, you are starting to sound like a Republican. I bet Lance's dealers are hanging out with the WMD. After all the lack of positive tests is proof that he is hiding his doping. I hear Lance spent the off season in Niger trying to buy herbal anabolics! fruit.gifmushsmile.gif

You guys are so sure they are taking drugs but you don't even know what effect they are looking for except that they can ride faster. Beside boosting your red blood cell count really how many things can you take that will really help!

Regardless if he dopes, has doped in the past, or has never doped (which nobody is going to prove conclusively on this board today), that he has won Tour 6 times and it in a position to do it a seventh is pretty lucky. There are so many opportunities for crashing badly, like the sprint finishes were people are wrecking in the middle of the bunched up pack. That, and the pretty much perfect execution of strategy has helped him win.

While not for the purist, it would be interesting to see what benefits might be the medical world if doping was permitted. You'd have the pharm companies breeding uber cyclists in test tubes. Lance Armstrong, strain IIV, sponsored by Glaxo Smith Kline.

Lance was 175 pounds, or thereabout, before cancer.

130 pounds after cancer. He's worked hard to maintain that weight. Now build up the muscle and stamina of a healthy guy, and all the sudden you have the same body frame with a shitload more power than any other guy that weighs 130 pounds.

That'll give one hell of an advantage don't you think? Combine that with the worlds best trainers and nutritionists, and the worlds best bike (well, that's debateable) and you've got a rocket on wheels.

I give my support to Lance. And I believe he is not a cheater. A bit full of himself, yes, but wouldn't you be?

dru, why do you give a fuk if he cheats and wins?

which i doubt is proveable anyways... the amount of drug screening they do after every stage is almost harrassment. the chosen ones go into the med van (still with the sweat on their brow from the day's stage) and get tested for a whole list of substances and enhancers..

really do you think any doctor could hide medical assistance from another nosey doctor. get real. the man is a machine and I do belive as someone implied above.. you are jealous.

cheers!

Yeah with one ball, Pfizer probably didnt want him to do Viagra.. I bet Mentor offered him sponsorship though.

I don't think the sport/doping thing is going to be reconciled in our lifetimes and certainly not in this forum so I have nothing to add. On a side note though I think this flippant attitude toward his fight against cancer and what it did to his body is petty. What is your experience with cancer dru? And why are you so angry?

Another cyclist got busted in the Tour today for EPO. It wasn't detected, the cops found it in his wife's car.

With products like the Whizzinator and a good doctor, athletes are able to get by.

That guy that got caught is a nobody. Anyways when they are doing a piss test they actually watch you piss.
