TheJiggler Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Is F!@#ing amazing. Check it out. It even knows about Snow Creek Wall ? How I've got no idea! Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I was playing around with MS streets and trips and my GPS a few months back while driving to leavenworth, and while it knew practically none of the I-90, Blewett Pass, or Enchantment peaks, it did have the snow creek wall. Go figure. Quote
Dru Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I heard Snugtop runs Google. Maybe she put it on there. Now the question is, can you find the Nodder using the mapping service? Quote
TheJiggler Posted June 28, 2005 Author Posted June 28, 2005 The cool thing about google earth its that A. its free and B. its got the whole earth! Quote
Kitergal Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 it's "taking a breather"!! WTF! I'm too late!!! Â "Welcome, frustrated would-be planet surfer. Â We appreciate your interest in accessing 3D geospatial information, but due to the technical limitations of this beta launch, Google Earth has been forced to take a brief breather. Please check back with us soon. Â Thanks, Â The Google Earth Team" Quote
mec Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Google rocks!!! but it sucks, I am not part of the google 'in crowd' so I don't hear about these things until it is too late... Quote
Alasdair Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Note that most of the major mapping sites use the same raw data. Microsoft, Google, mapquest etc. So it is not suprising that they both have snowcreek wall. As far as mapping for the northwest mountaineer goes I can assure you that MS streets and trips is likely to have the more peaks listed than any of the other programs. And while you may not be able to find some of the i-90 peaks using search, I can assure you they are there. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 The USGS has a database of landmarks and coordinates. Snow Creek Wall is most certainly in that set. Â Much of the Google Earth project was acquired from Keyhole. I had the pleasure to play with Keyhole's software back in 2002; below was a sample screenshot: Â Quote
Kitergal Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 hee hee...is that peak really named furry mount?? hee hee.. Quote
layton Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 why do all these maps show terrain from a southern aspect? grrrrrr. Quote

archenemy Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 why do all these maps show terrain from a southern aspect? grrrrrr. Isn't that the perspective from where guys usually see the valley? Quote
glassgowkiss Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 i think you always look from down-undaaa.... at least that's what i've been told Quote
archenemy Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 i think you always look from down-undaaa.... at least that's what i've been told Don't worry, no one would presume its from actual experience in your case. Quote
jmace Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 they better be two really different valleys, otherwise one's been gettin a little too much traffic Quote
jordop Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 both this and worldwind are bogus when it comes to BC. PLease note that Waddington has undergone a name change Quote
jordop Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 It'll also give you obscure 40 year old names for the same mountain Quote
