layton Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Fuck n' A! Classic Pink Floyd Lineup to Play Live 8 By Associated Press Sun Jun 12, 6:18 PMUPDATED 18 HOURS 14 MINUTES AGO LONDON - Organizers of the London Live 8 concert said Sunday that the British rock band Pink Floyd would perform with its classic lineup at the July event for the first time in more than two decades. Guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, bass player Roger Waters and keyboard player Richard Wright have not performed on stage together since 1981. The group, which achieved major success with their 1973 album "Dark Side Of The Moon," will join musical acts including Elton John, Madonna, Paul McCartney and Coldplay at the anti-poverty concert in Hyde Park on July 2. "Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G-8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world," Gilmour said. "It's crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations." Waters, the group's founder, split with the rest of the band after a falling-out in the 1980s. "Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it's going to be worthwhile," Gilmour said. klenke Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Now if they'd put out a new album, that would be great. For me personally, they're one of the few bands that have improved over time. That is, I like their later albums more. So naturally I eagerly anticipate the next one. It's been over 10 years! Quote
layton Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 how sweet would that be. i had front row seats to their '94 division bell concert. best show ever. i think each album is different, so i can't compare. even their early wierdness. too different to even call it the same band! Quote

My favorite Floyd is: Obscured By Clouds, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here. I think I watched the movie of The Wall one too many times. They might be good, or they might be like The Who...they kept reuniting until they turned into a joke. Quote
Double_E Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 i like the early Floyd weirdness. Ummagumma, A Nice Pair, etc. and all of their albums, up thru The Wall, had at least a few songs I reeaally liked. sine then, they've sorta gone downhill, IMHO. well, maybe there were a couple good songs on that first Pink Gilmour album in '87 or whenever that was. wouldn't mind seeing Floyd again.... Dechristo Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Haven't seen 'em since the '74 Dark Side of the Moon Tour, Olympia Stadium (where the Red Wings used to play). Haven't been to Hyde Park since '71. I'd consider going over to catch the whole concert, but, I bet Elton plays a bunch of his newer stuff and I've got a couple gigs that weekend. Fuckin' bastard temporal realm! Quote
cj001f Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 i like the early Floyd weirdness. Ummagumma, A Nice Pair, etc. They need to play with Syd Barret. Quote
Double_E Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 "The Gnome" I want to tell you a story About a little man If I can. A gnome named Grimble Grumble. And little gnomes stay in their homes. Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine. He wore a scarlet tunic, A blue green hood, It looked quite good. He had a big adventure Amidst the grass, fresh air at last. Wining, dining, biding his time. And then one day - hooray! Another way for gnomes to say Hoooooooooray. Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good? Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good? Winding, finding places to go. And then one day - hooray! Another way for gnomes to say Hoooooooooray. Hooooooooooooooray. Quote
Kraken Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 those lyrics are not only deep and moving...but true as well. Quote
