stevens pass: "STEVENS IS CLOSED TODAY, Tuesday, January 18 AND TOMORROW Thursday, January 19.

Due to adverse, heavy rain conditions, we are closed today and tomorrow. We expect to open again Thursday, January 20, conditions permitting, but please check back periodically for updates."

 

snoqualmie: "Due to severe weather and in an effort to conserve snow, The Summit will be closed today, Tuesday, January 18th. We do intend to resume operations on Wednesday, but be sure to check back for details."

 

baker: "We are going to pull our parachute for the next few days, and close the mountain Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will re-open Friday. This is due to the rather extreme amount of rain forecast for all of the Cascades for the next three days."

 

crystal: "Due to the wacky weather, lift tickets have been reduced to $30. The Chinook Express & Forest Queen lifts are open from 9am-4pm. All other lifts are closed until further notice."

Timberline: We've got very high winds and low visibility today so we will be closed. We will be open tomorrow from 9am-4pm.

when I lived back east there were times when this was the best we could hope for - it would soften the "frozen granular" (what just gets called pure ice out here) into something more like early corn. good gortex test too. but the lifties kinda look at you funny and tell you to go home...

Does anyone out there remember the winter in the mid-70's? How does it compare with this craziness? Also, can anyone remember another time when so many resorts closed for wahile mid-season?
