nalo Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Shortly before leaving bellingham I went scouting around for rock and found some. It's down on chuckanut, in that area near where the trestle cuts across that bay. You park at a park at area C and then walk north west along the shore. there's a kind of well known boulder area at area B, and then in the woods of area C there is an abundance of rock, with the potential for some bouldering and even some taller TR stuff. There's this one right hand overhanging arete that really interests me. Anyway, is anyone familiar with this area? Is this area old news? Quote
EWolfe Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Yeah, it' sweet d00d. Makes the gallery at Red Rocks look like a backyard crag! NW sandstone rules! Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Old news, but thanks! Theres lots of buoldering out there if people have some time and patience. Quote
Dru Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Isn't this an exact cut and paste of an old Mike Layton post? Quote
nalo Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 Iunno, is it? Did he have the sattelite photos? Also, have you guys ever gone exploring up there? I know a lot of people have gone to the boulders on the beach, but what about up in there? It's a cool place to go walk around, regardless of climbing. It's like larrabee, but more rugged and 3 dimensional with like noone around at all. Quote
layton Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Isn't this an exact cut and paste of an old Mike Layton post? yes. that place has some potential, but the rock is gritty and shitty even for bellingham standards. sweet tips traverse if you climb up the hill a bit in your area B or C. Get a tide table...p.s. the tunnel and tressle are fun to walk ala Stand By Me Quote
layton Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 oh yeah, that's the area where I did all the first ascents. they were a lot harder than they are now by the way cuz of factors and stuff. Quote
ScottP Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Isn't this an exact cut and paste of an old Mike Layton post? Minus the high rez aerial photo Quote
nalo Posted December 12, 2004 Author Posted December 12, 2004 that's a good photo... makes my terraserver pic look like crap. Quote
Billygoat Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Where is Chuckanut drive in this photo? Quote
Distel32 Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 in the top picture you can see it cut across the top right hand corner. In the second high rez photo chuck-the-nut is cut out Quote
Billygoat Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Thanks So then, where would you pull off Chuckanut to get to parking area "C", or is this area just not worth the effort? Quote
Mr._Natural Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 it will be wet till about mid august. Quote
nalo Posted December 20, 2004 Author Posted December 20, 2004 (edited) I think it's worth the effort. After passing chuckanut park and going up that hill, go 3/4 of the way down and turn right just before that little store thing. Make a sharp right turn where the road gives you no choice and then go straight all the way down to a little park (area C). check tha map, yo Edited December 20, 2004 by nalo Quote
