eric8 Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 I'm a gaper. I'm a rope tangling, belay device dropping, 5.8 leading, non-skiing, too-fat-for sport, too-slow-for alpine, non-dry-toolin, cheap gear owning, WI3 sketching fuck-off. I've never lead 5.10 trad. I've never tried 5.11 sport. I've climbed the WA volcanoes by the easiest routes possible. The only leader fall I've taken was 20+ feet… in the gym. I've never bivvied a storm on a big wall. Hell, I've never bivvied a storm. I believe in the light-and-slow approach to climbing. I believe in Wild Turkey on summits and PBR in parking lots. I don't own a crash pad and I could give a shit about V10 bouldering. I don't know any big name climbers, and I don't care to know any. I've flailed trying to toprope Classic Crack, only to watch someone else solo it. I still enjoy hiking the Mt Si trail. I've never been benighted on a route. I have respect for the Mountaineers because they are teaching people to climb. I have respect for REI because they are a business doing what businesses do. I don't talk about what I do because what I do sucks. Regardless of all this, I still have a great time climbing. Next time you see a big-ass bearded son-of-a-bitch sweating like Drew Carey in a South American marathon, laboring up a trail or thrutching up a 5.6, stop and say hi. I'll appreciate it. So your the reason it cost $300 for an arc'terx soft shell Quote
Cairns Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 I'm a gaper. I have respect for the Mountaineers because they are teaching people to climb. You have a serious problem. But only 1, so please work on it. Quote
catbirdseat Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Fenderfour gets my vote for the best post of this thread. Quote
olyclimber Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Hey, I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader.... I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dogsled.... and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada, although I'm certain they're really really nice. I have a Prime Minister, not a president. I speak English and French, not American. And I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'. I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack. I believe in peace keeping, not policing, diversity, not assimilation, and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal. A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch, and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!! Canada is the second largest landmass! The first nation of hockey! and the best part of North America My name is Joe!! And I am Canadian!!! Quote
sobo Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Hiiiiiiii, Joe! ...only 11 more steps to go... Quote
lancegranite Posted September 21, 2005 Author Posted September 21, 2005 I must have been really stoned when I wrote that... stoned and preachy. God, I'm embarassed. Quote
Off_White Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I've met Joe's Pancreas before, but never Joe himself Quote
