Free Climbing at VW on 9/11

I know nothing of the polotics and issues of the seatle area, but if you don't like the idea, don't go. It is possible that this guy just wanted to do SOMETHING to mark a day that effected all of us. Just simply to say that there was a tragedy a year ago. Mark the day how ever you feel best suites you, but do mark it. If I remember my history corectly 9/11 was the largest loss of life on American soil due an act of "war" since pearl harber. Wich is marked every year by many people.

take it easy

If anybody KNOWS that the VW's motives behind this are crass commercialism, then speak up. Otherwise, stop making such evil accusations just because they are a business.

Perhaps VW just wants to give something to the community. Climbing is what they got to give, so that's what they're giving.

I think the real scummy thing would be someone who just takes advantage of the deal and basically uses the tragedy to save themselves 15 lousy bucks. If Vertical World is gonna do this promotion (?) I assume that they will have some jar for donations that get sent to somebody (?) who needs it. If you're going to get the free climbing, I say you oughta put 15 bucks in that jar.

I think we should start a boycott!

The crass commercialization of Memorial Day has cheapened the sacrifices made on our behalf by thousands of soldiers. Sears should be made to pay!!!

[Mad][Mad][Mad]

I don't know which is more pathetic: struggling to find a means to "reach out" by offering a free climbing day... [Confused] or the anger people feel at the "cheapness" that such a gesture evokes...

i am not against the vworld having free daze... could care less....i could even care less what they charge on a day to day basis, a yearly basis or even for a century....

the thing that makes me shake my head is the day they choose to do it....that is all....it would seem like a marketing play dreamed up a smoe liberl think tank to use emotion as a selling point.....

Erik - Marketing? How have they advertised this free day. Its not even a big thing on their home page. Seems more likely that a few people coming in on that day would have been told "no charge today" in rememberance of 9/11. In that context it seems like a nice thought. All this marketing hype stuff is just BS.
