sk Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 I think I would feel like the staypuff marshmellow man in that.... " hold on, I'm a bit chilly, I have to blow up my jacket." says sk. climbing partner "hmmmm, I wonder why SK just passed out?" Quote
iain Posted August 29, 2002 Author Posted August 29, 2002 I wonder if it just starts filling up as you head up the mountain as the barometer drops. Quote
Dru Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Fill it up with Muir Hut smoke before your climb. Maybe they will call the next model the HotBox. Quote
iain Posted August 29, 2002 Author Posted August 29, 2002 sk you're posting almost twice for every one of my posts! Quote
Dru Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Stranger, if you're gonna challenge Quickdraw Michelle, don't sit with your back to the monitor in this here saloon. Quote
texplorer Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Does this mean my North Face MET 5 jacket is obselete? Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 No, it just means that now a bunch of snowboarders paid way too much for outerwear, too. Rock: Quote

Off_White Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Does anyone remember that old Chouinard innovation: Foamback? Quote
mattp Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 I think the foamback cagoule was OK for its day -- remember the ventile cotton jackets that were the "breathable" alternative? Quote
Off_White Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 My buddy Lloyd had one of those, I only saw it in its aged, wrinkled, and cracked condition. I believe he referred to it as "wetback" or "funkback" depending on the source of moisture. Quote
mattp Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Yeah, the seams leaked on those things and the foam seemed to increase the funk factor even though it was advertised as reducing the clammy feel of wet coated nylon. But they retained their water-proofness longer than the coated nylons then available and they were reasonably light and compact compared to other alternatives at the time. For climbing some place like the Tetons, where a gully-washer normally passes rather quickly, they were OK because you could pull your legs up inside and just sit it out. Quote
