hillweasel Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Squish would be kewl (weather permitting). but i will go anywhere.  since the last Kid Ropeup was all dads (okay there was one gf ) please be aware that lone males getting kids across the border into BC can be a real hassle.  I once got grilled for about two hours when i tried to go up to ski with my then 6 year old daughter. didn't matter how many phone numbers and reasons i gave they were sure i was abducting my kid and fleeing the country (probably didn't help that it was winter and i had a ton of gear in the car). when i came out from the interrogation they were rifling thru my car  As a reward I left them a ripe, poopy diaper in the main lobby trash bin.  so if we do go up there, be sure to bring birth certificates and signed permission slips from the other parent.  -hw
JayB Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 First or second weekend in October in Icicle would be cool. My niece and nephew are old enough to go now and I'd like to take them climbing with other kids.
sobo Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 ...i tried to go up to ski with my then 6 year old daughter... As a reward I left them a ripe, poopy diaper in the main lobby trash bin. Â Pretty funny present! But your 6-year-old was still in diapers?

The boarder can be quite cumbersome. And being a single parent whos ex is a space cadet, not reliable to give me the papers needed to get there. Sept. would be better, if you're thinking about the weather. I'll be there! My son leads 5.5-.6!
Billygoat Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 September sounds great. Count me in. I'll bring my son and one of his friends. Hopefully my wife will come as well. She needs to meet some of you jokers... Â
Billygoat Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Either works for me, if it is squish, don't forget the birth certificates and letters is the other parent is not coming along.
Bug Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 I vote for 11worth. But I will go either way. If it is Squish, someone else set it up as I have no idea what is up there.
David_Parker Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I vote for 11 worth also. More likely to get a better turn out. Shall we reserve a campground again? Is there one a bit closer than chatttttttttter Creek?
hohm Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I would also vote for Leavenworth, for logistical reasons. Â BTW, any other parents with teenage climbers. I have a 15 yo son, who is really getting into it...
mattp Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Eightmile and Mountaineer Creek campgrounds are both closer to "the action" than Chatter Creek. Â If there is to be a day-only event, Mt. Eerie is superior to Leavenworth for top-rope climbing -- but its not for an overnight because there is no camping there.
Bug Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 My kids are into the overnight thing. Sacrificing marshmallows to the night is still far more important than climbing. Hopefuly, we will be able to have a fire but don't count on it.
Rocksanyone Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I would also vote for Leavenworth, for logistical reasons. Â BTW, any other parents with teenage climbers. I have a 15 yo son, who is really getting into it... Â My son is 13 and did his first lead this year! Also a daughter 11. 11worth gets my vote!
Bug Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 I am swamped this week. I am still at work right now. Can someone reserve a group site over there? The BridgeCreek group site is nice. It costs money. We passed the hat last time and I think it came out OK.
Bug Posted August 23, 2004 Author Posted August 23, 2004 Kid's Ropeup is September 17-19 at Chatter Creek Group site. Same place as last year. Bridge Creek and 8 mile were not available. Cost is $149 for the site. We will pass the hat. Confirmation number is 1-3435078.
This is a family campout/climbing weekend. It is not an organized event per se. Bring your own food, beverages, cooking apparatus, tentage, my beer, etc. No cussing, cursing, or unsavory language unless it is part of a climbing story. To get there; go to Leavenworth. The first right is Icicle RD. Chatter Creek is several miles then a few more and maybe one more after that. Eventually, you will pass the Chatter Creek Ranger Station on the right. Take the first right immediately after and we are in the first loop to the left. There is a gate but it not locked. We check in at 3PM Friday and out at 11AM Sunday. Â Chatter creek is a ways up the valley where it can get cold. Bring appropriate dining attire. Â If you are coming, respond to this and post your name under COMING: Bug. Olivia 8, Meredith 6. Â Tentative: Â Can't find Leavenworth:
Billygoat Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Coming:  Bill E. Goat and Jed Finn(8)  Tentative: Heather  Way to pull the trigger on this sucker Bug  I will bring your beer Master
SnowByrd Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 COMING: Â Snowbyrd and Micah (10) Â We're so excited!
hohm Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Tentative: John (Hohm) and Shay (15) Â We will definately come if there are other teens there, otherwise I will have to use my powers of persuasion....
Billygoat Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 PM Hilweasel. His daughter is 14 I think. They came to the last one.
Bug Posted August 25, 2004 Author Posted August 25, 2004 The response is underwhelming. Rather than pay $50 for a weekend at Chatter Creek, (assuming the three committed show up and pay a third), I will cancel the reservation on Wednesday September 1, unless there is more of a response.
