eriknusanet Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 When do the crags at Index go into the shade? I seem to recall that The Country goes into the shade earlier than the Lower Wall. Maybe 2pm? How about the Upper Wall? I'm hoping to climb there tomorrow, but seems like it will be too hot in the sun now. Thanks, --erikn@myphysicslab.com Quote
Greg_W Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 Wear one of those umbrella hats and you'll be fine. Seriously, mid-afternoon is about right. Quote
erik Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 the upper wall shoudl be fine all day if there is a slight breeze. the country actually seems to be the warmest section of the lower wall. check out some of the crags below the upper wall to stay in the shade. 2pm sounds about right for the lower wall Quote
Lambone Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 Yes erik, probably super hot now. We roasted aiding up on the Upper wall the other day. Lower wall probly goes in the shade around 3 or 4 o'clock. Try the toxic shock area for some shade. There is a good .11 there for you. Have fun! See ya around, Matt [ 07-11-2002, 03:44 PM: Message edited by: Lambone ] Quote
Dru Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 it always rains at index you dont have to worry about the sunheat at all Quote
RedMonk Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 hit toxic shock today and it was in the sahde all day long there were only a couple cars there for a few hours....it was great no-one was there...freking hot though.....plus over by thin fingers there is some shade after like 2:30 or so...... Quote
texplorer Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 shade from what . . from the squeltering 75 degree temps. wow, now that is hot! Quote
Bronco Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 Everyone should just stay away from Index anyway, its too hot, too wet, too many bugs and car burglers, too chossy, greasy, steep, slabby, and the approaches all too long. Stay home or go to N. Bend! Quote
Dennis_Harmon Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 Touch the rock. If it as hot to the touch and really brightly colored...it is in the sun. However, if you touch it and it is cool and rather dark hued then it is probably in the shade (with exception of total sun eclise.) That's been my experience, anyway. Dennis Quote
RedMonk Posted July 13, 2002 Posted July 13, 2002 tell ya what dennis....it was a stay away day yesterday.....and by the way it was not 75.....mabe aded 15 degrees to that.....but whose comlaining? i saw mabe 6 other people there.... Quote
richard_noggin Posted July 13, 2002 Posted July 13, 2002 Certain crags ( Clandestine crag'in ) in North Bend stay in the low 70's when it's 95 in the lowlands. Can you steep, Bolts Gone for the weekend,I will not even break a sweat climbing this weekend Quote
