Oh yeah, all those damn liberals, they are the next step before terrorists!

Let us remember the worst american-commited terrorist attack on american soil was one timothy mcveigh, a far right racist radical. moon.gif

Yes, it's the people on the fringes of society (your standard JoshKs and Greg_Ws grin.gif) that are the worst threat. The Moderate Klenkes can be trusted. yellaf.gif

It will be interesting to see whether this guy is given due process, or if he will be stripped of all constitutional rights.

Lawyer, married with children, living in Coos Bay, sounds pretty middle/upper class. If this guy gets detained indefinitely without access to an outside attorney, you gotta believe noone is safe from our overreaching executive branch.

When is the supreme court going to come out with their decision on this stuff anyway? Does it take months, weeks, days usually for them to return a decision?

hmmmm... and McVeigh and this Mayfield guy were both in the US Army... why does this obvious Army-terrorist link not surprise me?

The guy is actually from Aloha - he's being held under a material witness warrant, so he hasn't been charged with anything (yet), and he has a lawyer.

"The sources said Mayfield, 37, is being called a material witness, which means he can be held and not charged."

Sorry, a guy who thinks we should have English as our national language is not all that moderate. tongue.gif

Still feel like you got that one on me, Marylou? smirk.gif

Well, you can say what you want about the justice system, but if the guy's fingerprints were found on some of the bomb-making material in Spain then I think you have to arrest him on that evidence. True enough, he may be innocent and the presence of his fingerprints can be explained away, but charges are what are applied later.

Don't you guys ever watch Law and Order? First Brisco and the other dude investigate and gather evidence. They take evidence to the DA or their boss (the captain lady) who then tell them to pick the suspect up based on the evidence gathered so far. Later, the suspect pleads not guilty and bail is set. Isn't that the way the justice system works? Matt?

So has the whole 9/11, war on terror thing put a dent into the "convert to islam" trend? I swear it seemed like their was a popular trend for people here, esp. minorities, to convert from whatever religion they were to islam. I'm wondering if the recent bad publicity has put a clamp on this?

That's the due process thing I was talking about. You know, getting to go before a judge and having them decide whether there's enough evidence to hold you in jail. Also that little bit about them having to actually charge you with something to hold you in jail. I'm all for that stuff.

I converted to JoshKism after I saw what that god could do on skis. I mean, geewillickers, the man is out of this world! tongue.gif

It hasn't lived up to the hype, though, and so I've been thinking of converting back to gaperism.

Pssst, it was sarcasm, pass it on...

I think possibly the conversion rate is/was about the same as usual only that the media then latched onto it, thereby making it seem like it was happening at a higher rate. The media is always implying/inducing generalities based on one or two interviews where the interviewee makes unsubstantiated claims (i.e., they talk out of their asses in front of the camera). At the same time, the media don't go out and do exhaustive studies or polls to see what is really reality.

Why all the hostility? cry.gif

I'm serious, I am curious if anybody noticed the trend of converting to islam that took place a while back.

Dude I went through my islamic phase in Junior High rolleyes.gif

Ha...I know. The little crying dude was my sarcasm back. Hmm...seems these little faces aren't as good at implying subtleties as we thought.

Anyway, I'm off to the mosque...

remember, not all muslims are terrorists. But, many muslims resent western inroads into their societal ways. The trend in prisons for criminals to convert to the nation of islam was once looked at as a positive step, maybe not so much so any more.

I have always had doubts about the sincerity of the Farrakhan-ites.

Anyone bombing trains is bad. Having an dude from oregon tied to the madrid bombings show how pervasive terrorism reaches and hits close to home here in the NW.

its sad, despicable really. Let's sic Gdamung on him, show him some frontier justice. To hell with due process and all that..

Oregon and Idaho are full of wierdos, but everyone in Washington is normal. That group they burned up in that house on Whidbey Island a few years back were just passin' through... Wait, I forgot about Tim Eyman. He's weird.
