With spring officially just a few days around the corner, and the recent snap of spring like weather, I can't help but notice that an interesting outdoor phenomenon is happening yet again.

I'm not quite sure if it is our internet, want it right now attitude, or perhaps we are tricked to easily be retailers flaunting the next season's gear; but during the shoulder seasons (Fall and Spring both), folks seem to hurry up and get their panties in a bunch for the next big thing. It seems as soon as the first sign or hint of spring hits, folks toss the winter garb into deep storage, and rush out to begin summer time activities. Likewise in the fall, the same gear that is being busted out this week gets tossed and folks pull out the ski's or ice tools and obsess over the forthcoming cold/snow.

My friends, spring and fall are perhaps some of the most enjoyable times to be outdoors, celebrating and enjoying the things we love to do. The smells and sounds of the seasons changing in the mountains is perhaps one of the most amazing and beautiful things I have ever seen/felt/touched/smelled.

I'm personally so excited for spring that I sometimes have a hard time sleeping. Being able to climb up firm snow in the morning, glisse down velvet corn in the afternoon, and all the while have my senses bombarded with the smells and touch of spring, it doesn't get any better.

So I'm not sure the purpose of my rant, but get out there and enjoy the wonders of Spring... resist the urge to enter full on summer mode... stay away from summer gear swagolouges, and enjoy this fantastic season.

Get Sum.

I love you Tim. (And not in the gay way, either.) wave.gif

Spring is about awakenings and new beginnings. My life has mirrored this, of late, and it is exciting to see what the months ahead will bring; both in and out of the mountains.

the best "winter climbing" is often in early spring unless you are after south facing ice lines

but admittedly after 3 months of ice climbing the urge to go play on sunny rocks in a t-shirt is very, very strong.

And spraying on CC.com is the perfect example of 'livin the now' and 'pushin the limits'. Have any gf's have dogged you because you like to spray here rather than watch TV with them?

Boy, did you ever sum it up. These blue days, and even the rainy ones lately have me just completely frazzled from spring fever.

I usually lurk like crazy on this board, and only recently came back to daily visits. The trip reports and the Madness That Is CC.com has really inspired me to get the lead out and take care of that dusty tick-list this summer. My training program is in full swing, my rack is out of the garage and sorted, and I'm taking the summer off from school to celebrate my climbing re-birth. It's been about 3 years since I did anything much bigger than a random afternoon at 38, but that ends shortly.

Anyone up for the Tooth next week before work sometime? grin.gif

no, seriously...

just like the way calendar summer STARTS on Midsummer's Eve, confused.gif it is already spring even though calendar spring hasn't started yet.

Signs of spring:

Lillooet melted out

Squamish sunny and warm

Daffodils growing

Tulips busting out ("what's better than a rose on my piano? Tulips on my organ.")

No more Lions Winter Ale or Shaftebury Winter Solstice or Quelquechose on the shelves, Maple Cream Ale is out.

Still light out when I drive home.

Cornices.

Wearing shorts for the first time this year.

MEC changed over the store from fall/winter to spring/summer.

Robins chirping outside my window in the morning.

Sun rises before I do.

Taxes to do.

Ate last mandarin orange from 10 lb box of them today.
