mikeadam Posted May 7, 2002 Posted May 7, 2002 Nice work Loren! The 23rd Psalm, Northwest Climber's Edition (adapted by me) The Random and Omnipotent Goddess of Northwest Weather is my Shepard; I shall want. She maketh me to become soaked to the bone in green slide-alder thickets: She leadeth me onto the slick-as-snot log crossing the raging waters. She taxeth every fiber of my soul: She leadeth me unto the way-paths of Beckey and I take His name in vain. Yea, though the approach seemeth like a walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil devil's club: For thy Goretex art with me; Thy trekking poles and thy cortisone creme, they comfort me. Thou preparest a sucker-hole in the tempest storm for me in the presence of mine friends; Thou annointest my head with rain, ice, and rock fall; My courage runneth away. Surely "obvious gullies" and "easy 4th class terrain" shall beckon me for all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Cascades forever. Quote

Matt Posted May 8, 2002 Posted May 8, 2002 Is there anyone out there who has climbed 23rd Psalm on Blueberry Hill (Exfoliation Dome)? I know this is thread drift, but I would really like to find someone who has climbed it within the last 10 years. Maybe ChucK? Or ScottP? Any old skool Darrington climbers out there? I've already given Mattp and DaveW the shakedown. Quote
chucK Posted May 8, 2002 Posted May 8, 2002 I thought it looked like it would be a way cool climb, but I remember some of those raps were so steep you could just let the rope slink away, no rope throwing necessary. So, it might be pretty hard! Rapped it last summer after climbing to the top via one of the western routes. I have no projects I embrace the transience of life. Quote
mattp Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 I'm told that the guy working it rates it at 5.12b. [ 05-08-2002, 06:08 PM: Message edited by: mattp ] Quote
Matt Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 ChucK-- After rapping it did you decide you didn't want to climb it? Was this before or after the "big rock fall"? Was it in the last 10 years? Would you climb it now that you are a Dad? I'm sorry, maybe this is your new project and you're planning to free it this summer? Quote
dberdinka Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 I don't know the details...but someone has been trying to free it. There are shiny new bolts on the lower pitches and at least 1 good bolt at every belay. Looks worth checking out, lots of nice rock on Blueberry Hill.... Quote
CascadeClimber Posted May 12, 2002 Posted May 12, 2002 Hey, thanks, Mike. I'm glad you appreciate it. Quote
