Somewhere between the short days

and the holidays,

pacing manically in a too-big apartment

I realized I had room for a bouldering cave.

No more than 150 square feet, but enough to

burn the abs and keep in the game.

Wit the help of my friend Brian, we started

saturday morning.

After a couple of hours, it was coming together:

Experimenting with a small formation on the tall end seemed like a good way to fill an unstable corner: 3712wall3.png

Brian helped me set the rest of the panels for this phase, andthe holds start to go up:

The end of phase 1:

8 feet wide, 12 foot roof with a 3 foor stub wall at the low end. When the formation goes in and I stabilize the wing, I can put in a 16' boulder problem.

Phase two next week. thumbs_up.gifgrin.giffruit.gif

Finished the column on the right corner today, added bracing, beefed up the wing and added some small panels for feet: total square footage: 160 sq feet of ab-burnin' crankage!!! rockband.giffruit.gif

I am sure the neighbors downstairs were wondering what the hell was going on this weekend tongue.gif

Visitors are welcome! grin.gif

Several years ago, I found a place that sold T-nuts by the box for $6. They are tedious to install because they're held in place with three tiny screws, but they'll never fall out behind the wall.

Whirly moved out - that's why I have room now tongue.gif

Maybe a pubclub/bouldering sesh next week or two. thumbs_up.gif

The cost is maybe $150 for lumber, screws and t-nuts, and another $600 for holds blush.gif. Need a drill, 7/16 paddle bit, hammer, construction adhesive and 3# each 1-1/2", 3-1/2" screws.
