jja Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 fyi, got this email today ... Perseverance A Slide Show/Talk with Climber Alan Kearney Tuesday, October 7, 7 p.m. Patagonia 2100 First Avenue, Seattle Alan Kearney and climbing partner Brendan Cusick pioneered a new route up the last major unclimbed buttress on Mount Combatant in B.C.'s Coast Range. Mount Combatant stands among such impressive mountains as Waddington and Tiedemann in an area reminiscent of a miniature Karakoram. Their 29-pitch, Grade VI climb took three-and-a-half days in a region known for its unpredictable weather and huge alpine faces. Besides being a climber, Alan is a professional photographer whose work has seen print in Climbing, Rock & Ice and the Patagonia catalog. He's also an author, whose latest title is "Classic Climbs of the Northeast." Join Alan for an evening of adventure at Patagonia. This event is free. Light refreshments will be served. billcoe Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 Wow: Alan K is older than me. Must be 50 plus right now. It should give all us old gumbys a contact hope and pride. Good job Alan! B Quote
Doctorb Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 When did he climb Combatant? Last season? Quote

Winter Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 Is this the big buttress that meets up with the big ledge and the start of Kashyra or whatever its called? Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Cool stuff. I was up in Enchantments with pms a couple of seasons ago and he was too. Bummer I didn't find out who he was until later as I was in too much of a hurry on the trail. I am sure the show will be great. Waddington Range super cool Quote
DPS Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I remember climbing with Brendan when both of us could barely rattle and shake our way up 5.7s. Now Brendan is a big name climber with trips to Makalu, first ascents in Alaska and I can still barely rattle my way up a 5.7. Quote
ryland_moore Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Yeah, Alan is an inspiration. Ran acrtoss him with jja last winter up in Lillooet as he warmed up on WI5! Hope I can crank like that when I grow up! Quote
cracked Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 It was a nice show, though a bit short. What really struck me was that Alan came across as an average Joe, rather than a Backes-iesque superman. Shows you what ambition will do for you. Inpirational. Quote
jja Posted October 9, 2003 Author Posted October 9, 2003 It was my post, and I didn't even go , maybe I'll make the twight thing at FF. Quote
