Tim Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 I am headig to leavenworth for the first time this weekend Sun-Tues. Could someone give me some beta on where to camp without major $? Info about where to avoid would be good too since it is the holiday season coming up. Please e-mail me back at k2bui@earthlink.net. Thanks! Quote
Winter Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 The rattlesnakes will kill you if you camp out. Try the hojo's in town. Quote
ryland_moore Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 We just slept at a trailhead way down the dirt road after the pavement up Icicle Creek Rd. ends. You are allowed to camp on the right side of the dirt road (the mountain side), but it is against the law to camp out between the road and the creek unless in a pay campsite. GOod luck in finding a place. My suggestion is to go hang out and pick up a local and stay at her place! Quote

ryland_moore Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 Who would have thought that Larry the Tool would be patrolling 15 miles down the Icicle at 10pm on a Saturday night! I figured we were Golden trying to poach the pulloff with the "no camping" and "no tresspassing, private property" signs on the tree above the car! Quote
Dave_Schuldt Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 I HAVE CAMPED AT THE END OF ICICLE ROAD WITH NO TROUBLE. FROM THE TRASH IT LOOK SOMEWHAT USED. SHOULD BE OK. Quote
scot'teryx Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 Yup, go past ida creek and such somewhere around 14 miles in the icicle creek road and look for the pulloffs on the creekside. Lotsa free stuff. Even more above Rock Island on the other side of the creek once you go over the bridge and past the pay sites Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 I usually go past Leavenworth a couple miles towads Peshastin and take a left onto a Cayon something Road. The turnoff is in the Peshastin Pinnacle area. Something like that. It goes through some residential then up into the hills. There are some side roads with pullouts and places to camp about 5-10 miles up it. Free. Quote
EWolfe Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 If you are sleeping in your vehicle, you don't need to go that far out Icicle Creek. If you look closely at the sign about 8 or 9 miles out on the left (there is an island of rock) it says something like "No Tent Camping" or "RV Camping Only". I have stayed there many times, and have never been troubled - even seen Larry drive by and Quote
pope Posted August 26, 2003 Posted August 26, 2003 Yo Mister E, Â You still driving that stabbin' cabin, the one with the funky curtains and the growing lights? Quote

Bug Posted August 26, 2003 Posted August 26, 2003 CHeck out the climbers camp abve Bridge Creek. Cross the creek on the bridge and go up the hill about 100 yards. Look for a primitive road to down to the left. It takes you out to a bench where lots of dirtbags will be waiting to jump you and torch your tent. No one else mentioned this place because they knew I would warn you. Quote
pope Posted August 26, 2003 Posted August 26, 2003 Nice! Rumor has it that with those late-model VW vans, you don't have to dangle a leg to the highway to help "pedal" when driving over Steven's Pass. Quote
