K- Very cool!

Why did you take the limbs off the house side? To lighten it is my guess, make it easier to rope it over the way you wanted it to go?

Brown Cubical butt rot pictures...

Yeah that's the shit.

The main idea when cutting down trees next to buildings is not to hit the buildings or kill anyone, so to insure the tree went the right way I cut off all the limbs on the house side so the center of gravity was away from the house and I had a rope in the top of the tree with a couple guys pulling on it.

I should add this was a tree next to some military housing at Ft. Lewis, so I was doing my bit for national security. yellaf.gif

So what is this business about a fir tree actually being some sort of a hemlock tree? Some sort of subspecies?

Douglas fir = Pseudotsuga menziesii

Tsuga is a hemlock.

Psuedotsuga is a "false" hemlock...

menziesii refers to the guy who named it: Douglas Menzies.

Seriouly I got into an animated discussion about the different kinds of fir trees which immediately broke down into this.

Kurt feel free to pontificate. I rarely lose arguments on the small details of tree subspecies but in this case my sparring partner had the right idea and my dad carried it to its rightful conclusion.

But on to what is SEXY.

There is old growth logging going on RIGHT NOW within 30 miles of Enumclaw. Anyone want the skinny? blush.gif

Dude that tree had a bad case of butt rot.

My guess is it was due to all that ivy twining about the trunk.

People think it looks so cool, but it does a bad number on trees.

(snip)

Maybe you should talk about things that you know.... oh yeah sorry this is spray. rolleyes.gifwazzup.gif

See the first three words of my post...rolleyes.gifwazzup.gif

And I know that ivy infestation killed two elms in my backyard.

CHUCK THAT HAS BEEN THERE SINCE LATE FALL.

NOW YOU CAN SEE THOSE SWEET BOULDERS UP THERE!!!

WE CAN GO CLIMB ON THEM ONCE THEY ARE DONE LOGGING AND THEY ARE SWEET!

TOO BAD IT APPEARS THAT THE LOGGING COMPANY HAS MOVED SOME OF THE BOULDERS AROUND.
