Lambone Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Fri-Shopping with the future inlaws Sat-got shredded by high winds and stinging drift at Paradise, flailed in crusty drifted cascade concrete... Sun- got soaking wet up at Big Four Ice Caves, also got schooled on some overhanging glacier ice. That stuff is hard, but hella fun...way cool for only 1.5 hrs. drive time! Quote
Charlie Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Epic? I saw cpt caveman and erik in the same weekend- I'm still gripped! Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Nothing really epic. But while heading up a narrow ridge late Saturday morning I passed 13 Big Horn Sheep (5 young, 7 female adults and a full curl+ male) heading down fast. I'm sure they were downclimbing 5.4! At the time the barometer was droping like crazy and my partner swears he heard one of them say we were nutz as they passed. We did experience a bit of a blow toward the summit and were forced to melt snow inside the tent that night. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Nice BFG to take home some jerky would have been in order if Captain Crag and I were in the AO. Hand me that Barrett .50 Crag and get that spotting scope up. Looks like dinner, wall trophy and a new rug! [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ] Quote
offwidthclimber Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 so there i was, lashed by rain, inching my way across a steep face. i looked to the cold grey sky for a sign of reprieve, but the rain continued and the rock streamed water, soaking me to the bone. i pressed on, matching hands on a slippery slide pull and with some great finesse, moving up and right to a small horn-like feature. from here, i barely reached the left edge of the fist crack. i smeared down and plugged in two good jams, and then freed my right to reach a solid edge and the safety of the corner system... wow, i thought, stepping into the pea gravel , that's 3 times in a row. the rain mustfinally be washing off all that greasy chalk. no epics here, just 2 hours of totally fun, rain soaked bouldering at the UW rock Thursday morning, while in town visiting inlaws. The few people driving through the parking lot looked at me like i was crazy. who ever thought climbing in the rain and getting soaked to the bone could be so fun! greasy jamming, tricky traverses and slipper dynos aside from that it was lots of eating and Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 No scope needed Cap'n. These pups passed within fifteen feet. There was no more room than that and they were intent on going down. You could have just about clonked one on the head with your axe. The ram was more interested in sniffing butts than two idiots heading up into a storm. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Cool I carry a club as my primary weapon anyway. Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 That would follow --- What's a caveman without a club anyway? Quote
slothrop Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Climbed up the outside of a lighthouse in Door County, Wisconsin before better judgment took over about 25 feet up as I looked down at the ankle-breaker rocks in the landing zone I'll submit pics to buildering.net! The lighthouse is real easy, just a series of mantels and heel hooks all the way up. No protection, though... Mostly just survived total boredom and the consumption of huge quantities of meat Quote
JayB Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 Well, no epics per se, but I left the headlamp at home for the first time in years and paid for it. After finishing up a day of ice-climbing at Mt. Lincoln the girlfriend and I stumbled and fell down a hefty talus field (covered with verglas and 2" of new snow for extra credit)for an hour or so. That was pretty lame, but finding out that the girlfriend can handle situations like that with a smile on her face was pretty sweet. Enduring an-hour long whine-session during that descent and on the drive home would have made for an epic outing indeed. Quote
bobinc Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 Got in some pitches at Tieton on Saturday, lost some skin but didn't feel it because of the cold, felt lucky it was only cold and not also windy, exulted in total darkness at 5 pm, then drove back to the big city. Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 Jay... Sounds epic enough to qualify. It sure is nice to test the whine factor in a non-life threatener. Quote
JayB Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 TG: True indeed - actually, if you count swearing as whining she handled the situation better than I did, as I was pretty much cursing up a storm the whole way down. Quote
admin Posted November 27, 2001 Author Posted November 27, 2001 so fess up all, give the scoop on the epic trips this weekend. my epic trip involved working the whole weekend while avoiding inlaws what did everyone end up doing? Quote

erik Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 i played in a soccer tourney on fri, eight games in all and we won!!!!!! (spray) as usual. though i would say if you plan on going climbing the day after an all day tourney you might want to go to bed before 3am, cause when you have that 6 am wake up to meet bros, you probably are not going to make it. though i am free of guilt due to dr*ay's 2 hour sleep in!! sorry matt!then when you have 2 more soccer games on sunday and you sleep in past the 1st one, just bail and go mtn biking. then dog your bro's and ladies that nite for the 3rd harry potter book, so you can wake 30 minutes late to go to work today. and believe it or not i barley even drank!!!! i did see an almost epic, but i have been sworn to secrecy. Bronco Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 After successfully hunting and baggin a nice little noble fir x-mas tree in the N. Fork Skykomish drainage the family and I were headed down HWY 2 to Zekes Drive in for some lunch and HOLY CRAPOLA I SAW ZEKES BOULDER!!!! I swerved onto the shoulder and slamed on the brakes much to Mrs. Bronco's astonishment. It is huge and right next to HWY 2!! I mean you could spit your gum or flick a cigar butt out the window of your truck and hit that thing. I don't know how I missed it when I went looking for it, but, geeze I must have walked right over it. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted November 28, 2001 Posted November 28, 2001 You'll need to wire out all the cool problems so I can visit there and get worked. Then walk over to Zekes for a Quote
