Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Wha's the diffy 'twixt ADSL and plain vanilla DSL? Quote
allthumbs Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 same thing. i've had dsl and cable. cable is faster downloading; dsl faster uploading. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 Cable rocks 'em when there's hardly anyone else on the net. Try using that shit on a Friday evening and it's a lot like dial-up, sans funny connecting noises. Quote
tomcat Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 The A in ADSL stands for Asynchronous. ADSL is a DSL line that is mostly for low use. It has download speeds many times faster than its upload speeds. Â S(ynchronous)DSL has upload speeds almost the same as its download speeds. This makes it optimal for gaming and servers. Because the upload speed is high it is more expensive than ADSL. Â For most uses ADSL is all you need. Quote
allthumbs Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 That's true if your cable company is fucked. Mine is awesome and put in a couple of new T1's or some shit and then starting charging people extra for downloading music beyond X amount of hours. Our system screams 24/7. Quote
shuksan Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 The A in ADSL stands for Asymmetric, not Asynchronous. Similarly, the S in SDSL is for Symmetric. Otherwise, AlpenTom has the differences straight. Symmetric = same upload/download speeds, Asymmetric=different upload/download speeds. Quote

iain Posted March 6, 2003 Posted March 6, 2003 the best option is to get a wireless card and move into an apartment near one of those swanky businesses in NW portland who have the t3's and poor wireless security cruise around there and find a coffee shop across the street. spray at high speed for free.
