tomcat
OK, I'm going with Buck again. Upon further review, I see Helmet Butte way in the background on the right .. the portion of Buck we are looking at in the photo should be the East [Northeast?] Face, and directly behind Buck should be Glacier Peak. klenke
The picture is of Buck Mountain, taken from the east someplace. Tom, you and I were up there last August, so you'll probably recognize the huge North Face wall on the right side.
slothrop
What's the rock like on that thing? I don't have the green Beckey guide to look it up myself.
catbirdseat
I believe it is a mountain that Beckey named Bandit.
Jake
Yeah its Buck. That glacier looks pretty cool too when it spills over some rocks near the bottom. This picture doesn't really show it, though.
Billygoat
Black Schist and Granite.
Off_White
If I recall correctly from my green Beckey, that face is reputed to be loose and awful, and the first ascent party recommended against any other ascents. Its big though.
rat
buck mt. is mostly rotten schist. however, the granitic pluton to the northwest near high pass has some good rock. the east ridge of mt. berg, called the "zen arete" by smokin' joe c. and shown in a photo on this site, is a nice 5.7 route and probably the most technical route you will find in the area. bandit pk (pk. 7107') is south of buck and north of d lake along chiwawa ridge. access to trinity requires 20 miles of snowmobiling at this time of year.
