mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Forrest- Are you asking about Off White's picture? It does look as if it could be some of that Wa Pass granite. I haven't done Clean Break. Quote
forrest_m Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Right. Yes. That's what I meant, Offwhite's photo. Oh this internet stuff is just too complicated. Quote
erik Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Right. Yes. That's what I meant, Offwhite's photo. Oh this internet stuff is just too complicated. Â let alone the rest of life! Quote
philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Proper, is that Mt Challenger? I've never been there, but the mountain in the left background looks like Mt Fury, based on pictures I've seen. Quote
Off_White Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Forrest & Mattp: Washington Pass is the right area, Clean Break is not the right route. Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Good one, Phil. I was going to check in the Red Book but I think you might be right. Proper? Are you there? Quote
klenke Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Yes, Phil, Proper's picture is of Mt. Challenger and that is Fury East on the left. Quote
mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Forrest: He said "fifty" of us. I figure, this means it is probably not 5.10 but it probably IS in Jim Nelson's book. The rack appears too small for - what is it - the 4th pitch of Liberty Crack. So hmmm... Quote
philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 (edited) What is this one? Â Â everyone has seen it, but usually from a distance. Edited January 31, 2003 by philfort Quote
Off_White Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Did we ever get an answer on Bill Simpkins wintry shot looking down on a climber? Forrest is so right, it does get confusing. Kind of like alpine route finding. Which obvious gully? Quote
ScottP Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Off White and ScottP got mine, Scott's is the nightmare needles/flagpole area from East Dragontail maybe? Nightmare Needles it is. I think the Flagpole is to the west of those shown in the pic, though it's been a while since I took it.  This one might be a little more obscure (thought I doubt it.) Quote

philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 (edited) ScottP, is the photo supposed to be only the top of a mtn? Chopping Block? Â oh - nevermind, now the whole photo is downloading... I'm pretty sure its the chopping block... Edited January 31, 2003 by philfort Quote
ScottP Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 What is this one?  everyone has seen it, but usually from a distance.  Something really purdy. Quote

mattp Posted January 31, 2003 Author Posted January 31, 2003 Might it be the Wine Spires? Burgundy - Etc.? Quote
philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Um, scottP that's the Chopping Block... again! With Mt Despair in the background. Quote
proper Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 yes, klenke is right...summit of challenger is the second block, of the pair seen in the middle, and fury is to the left. Quote
philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Nope, it's not the Wine Spires. I think the rock is probably pretty crappy on this mtn. Quote
philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Did we ever get an answer on Bill Simpkins wintry shot looking down on a climber? Forrest is so right, it does get confusing. Kind of like alpine route finding. Which obvious gully? Â Didn't someone say it was the Eldorado glacier? Looks like someone going along the wind scoop on the way up to the flat part of the glacier. Quote
plexus Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Proper, is that Mt Challenger? I've never been there, but the mountain in the left background looks like Mt Fury, based on pictures I've seen. Â I thought that was the Pickets but wasn't sure enough to answer (plus I didn't know what peak). Â Philfort, could that be Golden Horn? Quote
ScottP Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Um, scottP that's the Chopping Block... again! With Mt Despair in the background. Â Not Despair. Looking about due north from the southern Picketts though. That low angle ridge in the foreground ought to give it away. Quote
proper Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 plexus, it is challenger. See post about 10min ago. Quote
philfort Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Plexus, nope, it's not Goldenhorn. Â Hint #1: Jim Nelson did a route in winter conditions on this mtn. In fact, this face. Quote
