  1. I've been conducting all my tire bidness with Les Schwab for well over 10 years now. Haven't been disappointed yet.
  2. Hi Eric, It does have some variations, but you'll find a bazillion good placements in the following ranges: BD stoppers: #9 thru #13 BD hexes: #6 thru #8 WC Friends: #1 thru #2.5 Double up in the middle range of the cams. This route is a rope-stretcher. You can save some of your "route pro" by using small nuts/TCUs at the belay. There's not much use for them elsewhere on this route. Never too hard, frequent rest stances, and the jams are to die for. Best hand jammin' at the crag. You'll love it.
  3. From where are you acquiring them? That could be an issue (i.e., eBay v. sierratradingpost, etc.). Some warranty or return policy may be attached to them, or not. As far as safety goes, I'd use them, since they're BDs. I'd be way less inclined to even consider them if they were made by Irbus.
  4. What model number is it? How low would an "OBO" be considered? Would you be interested in reducing the price in exchange for a tax deduction? PM me. Paul Soboleski, President Central Washington Mountain Rescue
  5. Didn't see the show, but Eric Simonson, who was also an integral part of that expedition (he organized and led it) came to Yakima at CWMR's request and did a fundraising show for us. We replaced our truck with a lot of the proceeds from that show. Have you read his book of that expedition, "Ghosts of Everest" ? Both in his presentation and in his book, he made it sound like Mallory and Irvine likely did not make it there first.

When Christian missionaries knock at your door, invite them in to talk about the Hari Krishnas
  8. Pictures of the Talon here.
  9. It goes at 5.6, it's in Beckey's guide, and Joe Puryear and Stony Richards climbed it, like, last summer, or summer before last. Approach from the NF Tieton River Road, not from US 12. Joe posts here as joepuryear, or you can contact him at his homepage: http://www.cascadeimages.com BTW, Eric, you should consider coming out to the second meeting of the newly forming Yakima Climber's "Club" this Thursday. Joe was at the first meeting, and he'll prolly show up again this month. He's a really nice guy and I'm sure he'd tell ya anything you might want to know about the stuff he's done in the Tieton. The meeting will be in the upstairs forum at Glenwood Square at Tieton and 51st-ish at 7:00 p.m. Local climber and attorney Rod Nelson is gonna show some slides of his Cho Oyo expedition.

It's a joke that had more to do with my birthday than buying a car.

Once you get on the west side of 1st Street, things cheer up rapidly. The south and east (and especially the southeast) sides of Crackima are the hoodz. Once west of 16th Avenue, you're in Whiteyville. I live there. I've never had a problem in the 7+ years I've lived here. I just stay west of 16th Avenue, and north of Nob Hill Boulevard. There's no reason to go anywhere south or east of those lines, unless you're looking for or
  14. A CORRECTION, FOR THE MASSES: I was up at Royal Columns today doing some easy cracks (it was BF cold, but we had the whole place to ourselves ) and noted that the trail downstream of the bridge is now OPEN. Walked down it almost all the way to TPW, but it was getting rather dark by then, so I came back. I would say the trail is open, but please respect the local ethic and don't try to put anyhthing up across from Tim's Pond. TIA. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

  25. Rainier is, in fact, considered an active volcano. It is not at all considered "dormant" by geologic standards. More info from PBS here. Excerpt: "In the Cascade Range in the Pacific Northwest, the home of Mount St. Helens, geophysicists are continuously monitoring a number of other volcanoes that have erupted within the past two centuries, including Mount Shasta, Mount Hood, Lassen Peak, and Mount Rainier. "There is a lot of concern about Mount Rainier because it is so close to Seattle and capable of damaging mudflows," says geologist Mary Reid of the University of California at Los Angeles."
