Re-traced figure eight. Kind of like a water knot, but using a figure eight. Had a partner that liked to tie the rappel ropes together that way. Is that the same thing as a flemish bend? Is it any better/worse than a DF? I've never used a retraced F8 in that application.

You could accomplish the same thing with electrician's shrink-wrap. Just make sure you turn up the blowtorch real high...

bump! So I'm headed to 11worth tonight for some climbering this w/e. I didn't see any beta about free/cheap/secret climber's bivy in this thread (nor any of the others that I searched). It's been so long since I camped in the Icicle, is there now a place that's better than others?
