And transition them to an industry with a potential employment growth, ending welfare subsidies? Oh what will the liberals think of next!
  3. No, No Dru, it's for those whose dignified reserve is offended by the "public bravado" or mountain climbing, who prefer their moments of darind "personal, silent, and unobserved"

    iraq or bust

I've met a shitload more clueless, petty, dishonest beauracrats in the business world than I did in academia or working for the military. Of course maybe you want mindless beauracrats. And being the board member of a corporation isn't a job like the rest of us have. Unless you get paid $50k to show up twice a month.

Most enviros at the very least want the subsidised logging of public lands stopped - which I heartily agree with. The reason our timber demands are being outsourced is the timber's cheaper elsewhere - probably partly because of cutting restrictions, but labor, etc are all high in the US. Russia and Canada have vast forests, and are willing to give big subsidies. Of course the enviros turn a blind eye to the nasty fact of the damage being done overseas...

Over protection? Try they cut the Olympics clean. See much timber of harvestable size left on the peninsula outside of the National Park? I haven't. Whether you care about preserving old growth or not, by it's nature it's a finite resource (relative to our lifetimes), and little remains of it - why sacrifice this irreplaceable (again, in our lifetimes) resource, for an extra 5 years of logging employment?

    Thanks for the suggestions folks!
  11. You said something that I was afraid to say, but I have to agree. Sometimes though you get past a hard part, the slope eases off, and you let down your guard and decide not to put another picket in. But with more steepness coming up you stay roped. I can totally see how it could have happened. All you can do on routes like this is to never let down your guard. What route is it better to travel roped w/o pro?

  14. That's funny. I just read your post three times, and I still can't figure out what the fuck is has to do with my post. Your 'point' has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with my point. See, I never said anything about the content of the article. Go back, read my post a few hundred times before responding. Hopefully you'll understand it by then, but I'm not holding my breath. Moron. You find value by reading the halfbaked opinions of nutjobs right and left, and I'm the moron?
  15. Huh? 1st Punic War was confined to Sicily 2nd Punic War - the Romans feared the military strength of Hannibal, who they couldn't defeat in open battle, but who didn't have enough soldiers to attack their cities, so they waited till he'd overextended his supply lines, then crushed him. 3rd Punic War - Rome sacked Carthage, killed or sold are the Carthaginians into slavery, then sowed the ground with salt. I'm missing your reading of history
  16. That's funny. I read it and saw an interesting analysis of 20 years, followed by a haphazard fallacious conclusion, yet again linking Saddam (who had nothing to do with 9/11 ) in the broader war on terror, that he isn't a part of. Of course a lie repeated a thousand times is a truth, huh cracked? I suggest you head to www.johnkerrysthedouchebagweneedtocleanamericafromthenotsofreshfeelingthebushescaused.com
  17. My Betalight packs down to like 1.5 L or so, and weighs 1.5lbs. More comfortable than a bivy in rain/snow/the like. Roomy for a tent inside too. Bivy's are fine for camping in crappy spots (narrow rock, etc), or if you don't really except bad weather, but if the weather turns nasty, something over your head is the way to go.

  22. So the problem isn't the press, it's when people know about the nastiness of war? When people know of the nastiness of an Unprovoked war? Iraq didn't attack us like the Japanese did. Or declare war on us like Hitler did. Iraq didn't have anything to do with Al Qaeda - and so far, doesn't seam to have had any Active Weapons of Mass Destruction programs. Or even be actively supporting any terrorists (apart from the Palestinians) like Afghanistan was. So what compelling reason was their to go to war in Iraq?
