[TR] Bow Yoho Traverse - standard 04/10/2017
AlpineK replied to JasonG's topic in British Columbia/Canada
Interesting TR. It's nice to read a complete traverse of the route. I went to Bow Hut a couple times looking to do the traverse with a group in the 80s. We never made it far beyond Bow Hut due to whiteout conditions. Back then Bow Hut was a small quonset hut. -
There was 2-inches of fresh on top of a kick your ass crust.

I remember full serve stations in Washington. They went bye bye in the 90s.

Most folks seem to value low prices over sitting in the car. Of course someday every car will have a robot assistant so you can relax and text, buy stocks, or post on Facebook.

On Saturday snow around Chair peak featured nice new snow on top of old avalanche debris and limited visibility above Source Lake.

One wax to rule them all!

Forecasts call for rain in mountain passes/ski areas on Friday. Sunday would probably be better than Saturday. Probably BC skiing near Stevens, Crystal, or Baker ski area (if you push the 2.5 hr drive limit). NOAA calls for rain at Snoqualmie on Sunday

Trip: Arrowhead - NW Face Trip Date: 12/13/2017 Trip Report: Nice day in the mountains with good views. Snow consisted of breakable crust which was nice near the summit but degraded with descent. Lots of buried obstacles to keep you on your toes Gear Notes: Skis Approach Notes: The uptrack is different due to recent logging

Can't say what legal ramifications are. It appears being rescued after a fall and injury is possible http://www.traditionalmountaineering.org/News_Snowmobile_Helens_Accident.htm Of course the rangers didn't have to pull the snowmobile out too. In general day hiking around the crater is allowed, but I believe the crater is off limits.

Never skied outside of ski areas on Hood. While figuring it out on my own is possible, the Caltopo map is a nice resource.

Haven't been there, but the pass was reopened on 11-7 http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/passes/northcascades/ Chinook and Cayuse passes are closed for the season. Since they haven't closed HWY 20 and based on other photos of snowpack in the mountains there will be skiable snow but not a thick base. Could be a bit sketchy for skiing.

Yak is good eating. Goats might be a bit bony, maybe goat stew is the way to go.

Washington state legalization did him in. Now he can't visit WA, CO, OR, and CA among other states.

Hmm, I get the same. Photos show up in trip reports, but no Gallery Apparently you can still post your old photos...
