Works great if you are hauling. If not why bother?

Gotcha. I think I am having caffeine seizures.

When I was climbing in Slovakia this summer I would come across old links from via ferrata chains (they use chains as opposed to cables there) and nails from hob-nailed boots. Its really interesting to see.

Smith is more like a gym then what most would consider "being outdoors", and resin can be found there as well to keep DFA's happy and content. Just not enough of that omnipresent techno sound.

Eagle creek trail in the gorge used to have a via ferrata section. Dunno if its still there. A lot of euro countries have via ferrata lines. Opens the great outdoors to the masses. All I know is I'd hate to fall on one.

I had to drink really hard to spend more than $30 a week whilst there. The exchange rate is very favorable. Apparently Poland's social environment is quite a bit different from Slovakias as well but that is no surprise.

quote: Originally posted by Mr. Chips: Alpine, dogs have no business being there. I have seen ignorant fucking people bring their dogs up to very sensitive alpine environments and seen them tearing up the fragile flowers and soil while engaged in pursuit of wild birds, causing them undue stress and burning their energy stores off. Again, no leash and the couple found it endearing and exciting. This time I said something, not being nasty, just explained what was really happening there. Their reaction = clueless and careless. . . I agreed with all you said until this point. I take one of my poochs skiing with me all the time. He neither chases other animals (mostly because we never see any) nor does he tear up any fauna. If you meant alpine environment sans snow, I might agree but with the ever-present "it depends". I've seen just as many if not more careless humanoids tearing up fragile environs then dogs. Basically, it all comes down to responsibility. The other folks in the woods may or may not be into dogs. They may or may not dig being licked by your mutt or have their leg humped by a dog any more than having your leg humped by DFA. Too often people adopt the narcissistic attitude of "dont like it leave" and conflict ensues. I've been at Smith before and climbing morning glory wall as two rottweilers tied to a bush started freaking out on each other. Extremely disconcerting. The owners screamed at them to stop but nothing happened. Its a drag to be climbing and listen to some dog freak out. be responsible--if your pooch is not socialized to be cool in those environments dont take it. On multipitch routes I leave my dogs at home. The peace of mind not having to worry about them or anyone they may bother is precious to me. I got enough trouble trying to place pro on that run-out 5.4. Cragging? I might take my dog. Depends on where and when.

One heart-wrenching encounter with "the gentler sex" will have him on-sighting Leutholds like Will Strickland. I could engage in that silly page top chest-beating but I wont. ok, I lied. [ 11-11-2002, 12:10 PM: Message edited by: rbw1966 ]

I wonder how many scars saw their birth in the following: "Hold my beer" quickly followed by "Watch this!"

Yeah Timmy, bring on the ice show!

That image is wrong and suggestive in so many ways. I hear the Replacements singing in the background.

Three stitches in my chin from where I fell asleep whilst driving an armored personnel carrier and struck the one in front of mine, thus causing my chin to impact with the hatch. Said the WO medic who was roused to render aid: "You're a Ranger, you dont need any anesthesia". Oh, I beg to differ. Three inch scar on the back of my head from a slip-and-fall in a kitchen at McMenamins. One inch scar on my left index finger received pre-Darwin-Awards after taunting a bull snake in my high school science class. He did, indeed, move much faster than I.

According to Grivel's website, all their adjustment bars are compatible within their crampons. Why don't you just take the crampons in to a store and check it out?
-
Couple of seasons ago??!?! Are you insane, man!! Surely your wife has been informed of the potential failure of crampons due to micro-fractures that develop over time while using them on the bullet-proof styrofoam snow and crystallized mud of the cascades? If not you should absolutely point to this groundbreaking research and increase your gear budget accordingly. If not, I have a pair of scottish (strapon) style crampons I'd part with for pretty cheap.

My politics may run to the left in many ways but you'll not here me criticize any of the individuals who served honorably, and in some cases died, for our ability to disagree with our government (among other freedoms). I served, my brother served (and died while serving), my father served, my grandfather served, etc. You'll have to excuse me if I see your pissing on this thread as disrespectful. I read it as you inteded it to be read: satire and sarcasm, but found it weak and lacking in both respects. But then again, this is spray so my bad.

Speaking for my veteran brethren, DFA, you truly are disrespectful. I'll raise a glass to all my bros who served and are still serving in the military. "Here's to friendship, fairness and chivalry, without which man descends beneath the beast." Freedom is not free.

Buy new ones for yourself, make him use your old ones. Voila! Feed the rat and justify it at the same time.

You truly are clueless. I wish I had enough hair for dreads.
