What specifically is a "cop killer" bullet and where is such ammunition restricted? Also please cite the case where the restriction was challenged constitutionally and upheld. Heller was largely about banning handguns. Heller 2 was about banning certain types of guns. The supreme court ruled against DC in both instances. McDonald vs Chicago upheld the individual right and ruled in favor of incorporation. NFA hasn't been challenged since the SCOTUS held the state's rights view.

Maybe the sheriff knows a lot more about what's going on in AZ than you do. Or maybe his deputies had contact with Laughner prior and failed to act on the threat so he's bracing for the shitstorm.

Lets cut the shit, this is about making political hay out of a tragedy. The guy had no political connections to the right and if you watched his videos you'd know he pretty well hated them. In the past, prior to Palin and the tea party, he had correspondence to the Congresswoman but his ramblings no longer line up with a party affiliation. If anything he could be called a truther since he blamed Bush for 9/11. By the way, he made threats against a bunch of people and was turned into the police. They didn't do anything about it and the real question should be why not? If there was a failing in law enforcement it should come out. The sheriff down there seems to be taking a preemptive position blaming Palin and others, which strikes me as very odd.

It isn't my "little spin", here is the shooter's youtube account where he lists The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf (among others) as his favorite reads. I ran across a few blogs searching the story stating that he may have worked for the congresswoman in the past but I didn't see any evidence to corroborate the claim. One thing is certain, even at a cursory glance, this nutjob wasn't a Palin or Beck fan, nor a Christian.

Well, what Palin does or says doesn't reflect on me so when she published her list of political opponents it didn't change who I am as an American. I didn't know about it then so I didn't feel shame when it was published, it doesn't make me feel shameful today. I assume since no one here said anything about it back then (at least that I know of) it didn't make them feel much shame either. As to the relationship between Sarah Palin and yesterdays shooting, well the shooter was a self proclaimed far leftist (communist?) so I don't see any correlation between the two. Certainly not enough to, again, feel any shame personally. Crazies come in all shapes and sizes (and from all nationalities), a violent act during a psychotic episode isn't enough to make me feel bad about being an American. I hope the congresswoman pulls through, from what little I know about her she seams like a good person.

All poor choices, Rob. But I'm impressed nonetheless. Everybody has their favorites, but I'm not sure how anybody could call a gun like the G29 in 10mm a "poor choice" for self-defense. The 10 is an excellent cartridge (just ask Ted Nugent!) and the G29 offers an accurate, concealable, controllable and powerful package. Just a guess but I assume FW means they are a poor choice within the context of a cartridge for a first time shooter.

Most officers shoot like dogshit because they aren't gun people and outside basic marksmanship PD's don't emphasize training. My ex-BIL was a trainer at a large Metro department and the stories I heard were pretty sad. I shot with him a few times and every time I was amazed he was a trainer, he didn't shoot very well either. Fun story time: I went to the Swanson training center for a little range time and watched a local department doing the indoor scenario training with SIMS. One of the female officers shot herself in the face. DERP! Ayoob style.

Wheelie guns have their place but they aren't any more reliable than most automatics (and a case can be made that new wheelies are made with trashy MIM parts). I carry a J-frame sometimes but it's largely dependent on what I'm wearing. If I can help it I carry a large frame auto. Most people are situationally blind and won't notice even an open carried pistol.
