  1. U WANNA MAKE A LOT A MONEE?
  2. Not for ice dood, for alpine rock and ski mountaineering.
  3. Or on LSD.
  4. I agree and that's a good point. I'm no person of faith and I pretty much think religion is stupid and if I were a bettin' man I'd put my money on no omnipotent being. But there's more shit that we doesn't know than we knows, so on a purely abstract and academic basis I'll leave that door open. And I'm not sure the theory concept applies here (to metaphysics?) the same way it would as if talking about geography or biology or something, which is much more empirical.
  5. I don't disagree. But just as science and logic can't prove the existence of an "omnipotent being" (for lack of a better term), it also can't disprove it.
  6. I actually would have to agree with FW. Atheists are just as dogmatic as the religious if they assert that beyond a doubt there is no godish type entity, who for all we know could be an omnipotent bacon producing octopus-monkey creature. But I think the term atheist is often used loosely to include agnostics.

    Bummer Dude

a neighbor offered Kevin McCarthy a beer, which he declined. He probably wanted something stronger.
  8. Why make tele turns? Just plant your heels and wiggle your butt.
  9. I have about 200 oval biners in a box downstairs I'd donate, but no one would want them.

  11. Sorry, non-modular. I bought one for a good deal last summer at Second Ascent and promptly dropped it off the north face of Castle Peak the next week and haven't replaced it yet.
  12. Where'd you get that third tool? Hard to find those these days with the modular hammer and downcurve pick.

    Dammit

Since when is galloping around on horses while wearing funny suits not a sport?
  14. Good luck with that. Don't forget your taun taun.
  15. I thought he was into the Wal-Mart Hannah Montana brand.

    Dammit

I'm pretty sure polo lessons are more expensive.
  17. If you haven't purchased your tent yet, take a look at Black Diamond's single wall tents made of Epic fabric. They are light, remarkable versatile, and would be great for a summer ascent of Rainier. As buddy said above, depending on weather and your climbing strategy, you might be fine with just bivying out.
  18. A lot of time, mostly on sub-alpine exit descents, you are transitioning from descending to traversing / skating / sidestepping. Seems like it would be quite a pain in the ass to have to keep switching modes with a split, especially during that part of the trip, where usually you're pretty tanked and just want to get the hell out of there.
  19. I don't think the softsole of a snowboard boot would be much of a hinderance. I've climbed a lot of shit in approach shoes and strap-on aluminums. I think the big negative for snowboards is rolly terrain and shitty side stepping and travesring that is involved in ski-mountaineering around here. Somewhere like Cham or the volcanoes even, snowboards are probably good tools, especially since you can ride with an axe in one hand.
  20. That probably just means the authors of those papers are nitpicking about minutiae contained in other studies on globaql warming, as scientists do, it doesn't mean that there are 450 papers concluding that global warming is not occuring, and from anthropogenic causes.
  21. Federal judiciary system has a 100% conviction rate against terrorists accused of committing terorrist acts on US soil, BTW.
  22. Wait. We're actually using our own judicial system to try the bad guys? Why that's just sheer madness!
  23. I don't think Mike would look all that good in a bikini anyway. But if that's what you're into, Hugh, there's nothing wrong with that.
  24. Porter, you sure have perty hands.
  25. I found a picture on the internets of Kev hitting the slopes.
