last week in October... Hoh glacier will more than likely be extremely rotten to cross to get to Glacier Pass & the Blue.. not to mention just getting down to it from Blizzard Pass/Camp Pan.. early Oct '05 Also the Childs glacier will probably be quite melted out... late Aug '09 Stay high on the south end.. and be aware of the ice off the close (on left) rock ridge.. the ice was very melted out and hollow beneath.. it was very evident.. give that rock a wide berth And as mentioned above, the Snofinger will probably be.. interesting.. lots of boulder scrambling I'd guess Make sure you've got plenty of water thru the gullys beneath Carrie & thru 11 Bulls basin.. I'd also suggest reading (photocopy & take along) the high Cream Lake aproach decribed in the Olympic Mtn Climbers guide.. it will allow you to bypass the crappy, bushwacking lower aproach..and gives some nice higher views of Ferry basin & Olympus/Mathias as well. Give us a report and pics if you take it on.. good luck!! The Bailey is awesome..

Glad they saved your foot Steph... I've been in quite a few of those type distal Tib/fib fracture surgeries... When I read your description of the fall.. it was the first thing I thought about. Making sure there's adequate circulation to the foot is certainly a main priority.. tho as you know.. when there's not, vein grafting is not always successful.. Thank Goodness yours was!! I too commend your medical team! As well as S&R of course.. Looking forward to many, many more TRs from you! Here's to a quick & complete recovery

Attempted Olympus a few weeks back... directly following those weeks of crappy wet weather.. Avy danger was thru the roof as the temps rose abruptly.. and all the beta revolved around major post-holing... Didn't really know what to expect as we drove over.. but wtf.. Thankfully the snow level dropped for us from 12k to 5k, and the morn/day of our summit attempt we were putting on frozen boots. We were sitting on the snow ramp below the summit block by 1030... tho we determined it was too encased in snow/ice for us to safely attempt the scramble to the top... We had also planned to traverse across the top to the upper Hoh, beneath East Pk, and then back thru Glacier Pass.. but on our way across, with temps rising, we began punching thru the crust to the unconsolidated snow beneath.. becoming apparent the narrow, steep unsupported band of snow beneath East Pk was not a prudent path... So we headed back thru Crystal and punched knee/thigh deep holes down from Snowdome. All in all we got very lucky with the weather.. and had a great adventure... This is what Herb Crisler thought of the Olympic Wilderness.. this as he was huddled in a shallow cave below the snout of the Hoh Glacier in a sleet storm on day 19 of a 30 day survival trip in 1930: No road should ever pierce the heart of the Olympic Wilderness. If one would like to experience this area, one should put a 45 lb backpack on their back and leave the car (and its pollution) behind. --above excerpt from Beyond the Trails--

I once walked from Sol Duc to North Fork Quinalt... a road would have helped make it easier.. and ice cream would have been awesome.. especially cold ice cream
