Sounds like all that's missing is the midgets, donkeys, and tequila. Pics?

SICK MUSIC FESTIVAL

Nobody said that patrolling is the only way to do that. There are certainly other jobs in the ski industry that provide the same mix of snow science, medical service, and flat out good turns. It depends on the individual and what their interests are. If all you want to do is ski, and you don't have any desire to explore those other facets, then of course there are different jobs that allow you to ski more for less work. Being a bartender, for example. I'm just trying to show the other side of the coin to the "blowhards, babysitting, bandaging and bamboo" that you seem to think embodies patrolling.
-
Do you like skiing every powder day all season? Do you like to blow stuff up? Are you interested in weather and snow science? Do you like waking up early and spending your whole day in the mountains over and over again? I'll admit, there are the days where you feel like a babysitter and have to answer the same questions over and over. They're called weekends. And as far as getting bored with skiing because you're a good skier and you get to do it everyday; I think that would have more to do with the mountain you work at. As long as you are somewhere that provides the kind of terrain you can get busy on, you can catch your line of the day on the way to the base to fill out paperwork on your "babysitting" charge. It's all about staying motivated and realizing that when you start to feel bored, it probably means you need to try a little harder and you will find something new again and again.

That depends, were the pages stuck together?

NFL Suspends Vick Indefinetly Without Pay

Yeah, the state-famous Huckelberry Inn. Best bacon around, although I've heard through the grapevine that the overall quality has declined. I don't live in OR anymore so I can't comment, anyone have direct experience with this assertion?
-
One year it snowed a foot the night before my birthday (I ski on my b-day every year, April 14), coupled with sex and breakfast at the Huckelberry Inn, that was a pretty good birthday

I used to be a pro patroller and I tried out for 3 or 4 areas before I settled on one, so I've been through a few hiring clinics. Generally, what they want to see is that you're a solid skier in any conditions. Obviously, you need to be able to get to any part of the ski area in a reasonable amount of time, but it's much more important that you can get there in 20 inches of mashed potatoes or wind-scoured ice. I went through one clinic where I tried the approach of hauling ass everywhere, but the lack of control that comes with skiing at the edge of your ability is not a desirable quality. Your daily life as a patroller will involve skiing all types of terrain with large bundles of bamboo and rope, or a toboggan, and often without poles. So again, being solid is much more important than being a showboater. There were some fairly cautious skiers on patrol at the resort I worked at, but they could haul a toboggan through a bump field with the best of them. As far as what else they are looking for: my experience has been that attitude is almost more important than skiing ability. Are you a whiner? What is your work ethic like? Do you get along with the group well? Because it's extremely important that you fit in since you will be placing your lives in each others hands. What is your customer service like? Unfortuanetly customer service is a bigger part of the job than most people realize. Having prior avy knowledge certainly helps, but as long as you have your medical cert (the requirements vary from area, I had to have EMT-Basic and OEC)most places will take you on without extensive control experience. It also helps if you have a mountaineering or rock climbing background since you will be trained in lift evac and high angle rescue. All in all, best job of my life. I'm hoping to be able to do it again someday.

That pretty much sums up my theory about whether you're a man or a woman, lesbians are inherently sexy and gay men are inherently not.

[TR] Mt. Queen Bess - SE Buttress / Good Queen Bes
hefeweizen replied to peas's topic in British Columbia/Canada
While I can visualize based on my own experience (and often do instead of being present to work or the current conversation I'm involved in) what this route probably looked like: some pics would make it that much easier if you've got 'em. Nice job to you and your friends. -
Would it change your opinion if you started the Grand with cruel shoes and finished up the roman chimney's? I know that may change the scope as the chimneys go at .11d or something, but it would be a much more aesthetic finish then squirming off at Bellygood (which is what I did).

When I was 7 I got Optimus Prime (the biggest, baddest transformer there is). I almost passed out. When I was 16 I got some Sportiva boots (Makalus), a rope, a helmet, and an Avocet altimeter watch. I was off and running...

[TR] Bariloche, AR - A Day in SA 8/22/2007

You are a heartless bastard showing us pictures like that right now. It's one thing to watch old ski movies because you know you were probably skiing that day too. But to see someone else getting the goods while it's 70 and sunny out... Just kidding, thanks for the stoke. Argentina is definetly on the list. NOAA Climate Prediction Center Stokie for the NW winter 07-08 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
[TR] Mt St Helens - Monitor Ridge 8/18/2007

That looked like a tasty Coors in the fog. Thanks for the outstanding TR, I was on the edge of my seat. I really felt like I was slogging thru ash right next to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Yeah, but it doesn't even look like you'll have to. That's why I'm saying your forecast looks nice.

Vantage NOAA Wow, I wouldn've never considered Vantage in mid August. You guys are stoked.

When I was growing up and starting to climb mountains in the NW, I had an extraordinary success rate. This set me up for some high expectations and I rarely had to back off. Well in the last few years the law of averages has caught up to me. I expect to be back on track here pretty soon. That being said, if it was easy everyone would do it. Besides, the failures make better stories.

You live in sultan. WTF are you driving 4-5 hours to a wannabe place like meadows? Every once in a while to kick it with the hommies at my home hill. Or if I get an itch for the lines on Wy'East or elsewhere in the environs of da' hood.

Come on up to HWY 2!! Index, Goldbar, Castle Rock, Leavenworth, Stevens Pass, the NORTH CASCADES; no shortage of climbing (unlike Eugene). If you ski: it's colder than Oregon and there are more options for backcountry or resort turns. We just bought our first house in Sultan, which was kind of by default because we couldn't afford anything in Seattle. But now I'm so glad I live out there. I'm 15 minutes from Index and 40 minutes from Stevens Pass. I work in Bothell, so I only commute about 30 minutes and it's a nice drive on 522. The whole Skykomish Valley is coming up, mark my words. There are a few new developements going up in Sultan, and Monroe is almost a regular city. We don't have kids, so I'm not too up on the school situation. But if the rest of the picture fits your life, I highly recommend this area.

I would love this because then I wouldn't even consider skiing there. Anyone dropping that kind of coin for the ghettos is out of their mind. Yep, meadows sucks. You should not go there. Tell all your friends. Please.

Is that the variation to the Pioneer Route that starts on the west side of the monkey?
