  1. Funny how the perception of running changes according to different groups...I see no other option BUT to run 70miles per week or more this summer to keep my spot on the varsity cross country team.
  2. Very good chance those are related...Years of your body compensating for your inflexible hip would set off the IT problem...
  3. Thanks for the offer, however a small wouldn't fit me. Anyway, I saw the Patagonia guide pants and they look pretty solid. Thanks for the recommendations.
  4. Try having a climbing gym at your school - everyone who gets on a couple holds says the sport is easy. Or when you mention to someone at a party that you climb and they talk about how they've climbed in a gym. I used to care - but to each their own. Plus, I run too much to be considered a true climber, so who am I to judge anyone?
  5. Paging Matt cook! I go to cwu and love it here. Great climbing all around - tieton (50 mins), vantage (30 minutes), leavenworth(55 mins), cascades (an hour), stuart(hourish), snoqualimie pass and alpental (hourish) etc. Anyway, there is a guy on here, his name is cook, that graduated from cwu with an exercise science degree. The cross country team has been involved with the exercise science program several times for tests and they have really great professors. It wouldn't hurt to check it out. If you have any other questions let me know. Plus, there is a small vw scene!
  6. IT band syndrome is usually developed by muscle weakness in the hip and or knee. This unevenness in strength then causes and uneven pulling on the IT band, causing it to rub against the knee bone, hence the swelling and inflammation. By no means is does this explain all, but most. In past experiences, you need to find which muscles are weak, and you'll be surprised which are, and use mechanically correct exercises. Training your legs to operate in a biomechanically efficient way is the best way to reduce injures. In addition keep up with exercises/weights to keep those areas strong and buy a foam roller, which helped me a lot. If you want some more details on what I did, let me know and I'll dig up my old list. PS. These exercises are not something that you finish when your pain is gone - you probably know but just thought I would reinforce the fact that you continually keep this area strong no only to heal this problem, but then prevent it from happening again.

  8. That just made my day.
  9. Oh it lasted, little bumpy, but I got down the road faster than on foot. Then again I haven't check if the wheel is straight anymore.
  10. I wonder, were the other guys on the bike that offered me a bike pump near the trail head? Regardless, great work guys. Glad the conditions worked out well for you.
  11. Anyone ever climbed Appetite for Destruction on Kloochman rock? Guide book says its 6 pitches, 5.10d and PG rated as well...
  12. Here are a couple pictures from saturday, 4/21: If you want higher res let me know.
  13. That was some sweet footage.
  14. You can't do that while climbing?
  15. Yeah, thats the guy. He also says, "Black Canyon makes Yosemite look like a fucking elementary school."
  16. Ignorance is bliss. Unfortunately, too many college students live by this idea.
  17. "Are you alive?" Good quote is in the movie, First Ascent, after they do the segment on the Black Canyon, this old drunk hippy says something along the lines of: "It isn't about the numbers or shit. Its all about the feeling. If you got it - thats great. If not, then, well, you're sport climbing." I probably butchered but it was great.
  18. People who participate in sports/activities that produce more than a normal amount of endorphines are more prone to developing addictions.
  19. Yes. Shorter the better.
  20. I expect myself in climbing situations....I'll be climbing in the Alpine lakes region with maybe some other stuff such as rainer mixed in. The seasons I care about are basically now through fall and ice-climbing during the winter. Activities range anywhere from non-technical climbing (colchuck) to possibly skiing to ice climbing and more technical climbing as I learn it. I am willing to suffer a little bit? Hopefully that helps. Thanks.
  21. Another newb question... Trying to find a good pair of alpine/mountaineering pants. And looking around I have no idea whats good and what all the terminology means? Soft shell vs hard shell, how warm pants are etc. What kind do you all have? How are you liking them? Thanks again.
