correction: President "Elect" Obama...
-
Some people insist on seeing the glass as half empty... While I don't want to condemn such people, I do think we need a more positive, hopeful outlook while figuratively rolling up our sleeves and actually getting to work on the real issues that we face. I don't agree with everything President Obama proposed during the campaign by far, but I'm willing to give tha man, and yes, his staff a chance to show what they can do in beginning to address said issues. It takes an equal amount of energy to be positive/negative so why not positive right now? d

The President Elect has made a wise choice IMO. He will need a tough guy to keep the staff in line and producing for the country. President Elect Obama is going to need Rahm's toughness to run the crew... It's really that simple. Let's give these guys a chance and see what they will do eh? d

You know the republican party is in deep shit when pat buchanan is the conservative voice of reason... d
-
A great choice by President Elect Obama. Rahm Emanuel is a very bright guy, and one tough SOB. A great start... d
-
Just saw Rahm Emanuel has accepted the chief of staff job. Nice.

Oh, by the way... http://www.spokesmanreview.com/breaking/story.asp?ID=17583 So the man is ready to do the right thing. Better late I guess. d

He who laughs last, laughs best... It's way past time for Mr Rossi to concede... d

"It's a really good day today." "It truly is a great time to be alive!" Agreed. I'm more about learning from the mistakes of the past and moving on as quickly as possible. Not about participating in recriminations. I do not condemn those who choose to do so. Not today. The last eight years have been very difficult no doubt. My bottom line: I'm a proud American again... d

I thought John McCain showed a lot of class in his consession speech last night. It was nice to see and is the kind of "leadership" the country needs. This fine American just missed his time for the presidency. Timing is everything. Now, I think the question is, are we going to follow President Elect Obama, Sen McCain and others who will try to bring this country together to solve the enormous issues before us? Will we individually walk the walk? Disavowing rhetorical opportunists, starting today by asking ourselves what we can do for our country, not what our country can do for us? Count me in, I'm up for that. d

The Secret Service is good at what they do. They understand well the dangers facing President Obama. We have to believe they'll take good care of him. d

A proper celebration to the end of the long dark night will include cracking open at least a couple of Sam Adams' finest winter ale. Indeed, Americas finest, historic, beer. d

Name 3 and provide links. What innocent people have we tied up and beat for 2 months, then arrested when they went public with the story? Bill, bush administrations' rendering "suspects" to foriegn countries where torture is administered with regularity is widely known and specific cases most probably could be researched easily on the internet. Do your own work if you're really interested in finding out. Quit being so obnoxious, and lazy. d

I'm gonna hold off from watching any returns until tonight. I want it to be a normal day and not get caught up in the election stuff too early. Nice to have the campaigns coming to an end and I'm confident we'll finally take our country back from the extremist right wing of the republican party. I never have been much for flag waving but I will attach a sizable US flag to the front of my house on Jan 20th and I expect it to be there for quite some time. Either way the presidential election goes I figure we don't have to be embarrassed to admit we're americans anymore. The democrats better not fuck it up. d

I cannot imagine climbing a mountain so many times. Even Mt Hood. You must have done it from every possible direction then? I have climbed it three times and that's most probably it for me. Cooper Spur might be fun with the right people tho... hmmm

Can you back up this assertion? Who are these evil barons holding "most" of this paper? All I see in your statement is froth. BTW: How are mom and dad? Nonresponsive...

We're fortunate there are folks willing to serve in our military. Especially these days with a republican administration that misuses them in wars of choice such as iraq is, then mismanages said war and soldiers' care as they return, damaged from the experience. I prefer not to make judgements about why these young americans serve in this way. It takes a special sense of duty to serve honorably during such times as these and I am very thankful they do. AND it is time to bring them all home from iraq and take good care of them. d

Coast Guard boot camp and 3 months duty doesn't count you know. That whole being in the military thing is more difficult than it seems. I figure anyone who can take more than 2 years (my max tolerance) may be pretty bad-assed. Putting up with the bullshit in the military is the tough part. Physically, it doesn't even register on the difficulty scale as compared to some of the other activities that came later. One thing the military's real good at is promoting the habit of unwarranted chest beating. I dunno TV, point well taken but, USMC was physically and mentally tough... Yes, there was a lot of chest beating (it's all unwarranted IMO), and the requisite "bullshit" (the Marines set records for this one) to put up with of course, but the training was very demanding. The experience helped me in life, and climbing too... d

fw you missed the point completely and made an incorrect assumption. that, is not surprising. I was not referring to a specific case. My reference, simply, was to roughly 30 years ago when as a young construcion worker. I met a property owner that had had his property condemned for a project I was working on. This man was in tears over it. It was very painful for his family this happened. this land had been in his family for generations. as a veteran, and proud american, I couldn't believe it was possible but understand now it is a necessary evil for the common good. But, and here's the point in simple terms fw, it could be called socialist, this right of eminent domain. the "bailout" legislation your president recently signed could also be called socialist. this legislation was of course also a necessary evil due mainly to republican's crying for deregulation of the financial sector in 2000/2001. dubya's breaking of fisa laws and evesdropping on american citizens could also be called "socialist"... this "socialist" label people are trying to stick on Sen Obama is just more political bullshit and you should know this. after reading some of your posts though, it becomes quite clear why you may not... I believe Sen Obama is a man for the times. perfect? of course not. the man is however a much needed change in intelligence and attitude from what we now have. d

this proud lib would not wish death on anyone. not even dubya... d

palin is in over her head. just like bush is and people are seeing it. only thing left in this election is the republican crying jag. the grand old party... lol if only they could govern... d
-
The day I found out about emminent domain and the the governments ability to condemn a persons property and legally take it away from him/her, I learned this is not a free country and the government is necessarily socialist in some respects. I think reagan was president then, not that it matters... I think it's funny a guy like fw get's on Barack Obama when he voted for a guy like bush twice and he has expanded government, increased spending and national debt to record levels and is nationalizing banks and corporations as we speak. reagan was also a big spender and expanded government. the biggest liars in politics are republicans it seems. fw just keeps on lovin fox news and drinkin the coolaid. too funny. d

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/09/29/zakaria.sarah.palin/index.html Zakaria has it right I think. Palin's in over her head and should be dumped. d

President GHW Bush wasn't a bad guy IMO. I didn't vote for him but I thought he showed real leadership when he raised taxes and in effect committed political suicide. This is the guy everyone voted for, not quayle... He made the hard choice. Did the right thing as he saw it and paid the price. Gotta respect that. d
